Leadership Is Important In The Future, And Relationship Building

James Kouzas and Barry Posner state, “Leadership is important, not just in your career and within your organization, but in every sector, in every community, and in every country” (2012, pp. 7). This quote is a good example of the significance that leadership can have not only on one’s personal life, but in their professional life in terms of how and with who they interact with. When it comes to my own leadership skills, there are three specific areas that I could personally improve on: communication, looking at the future, and relationship building. These are three areas that are important when it comes to understanding my own leadership style and how they relate to two of Kouzas and Posner’s leadership components: Model the Way and Inspire a Shared Vision (2012).
Communication is an important area of leadership, because it is essential to be able to effectively communicate in both one’s personal and professional life. When it comes to Model the Way, communication is able to relate because it is important to communicate with those one interacts with on a regular basis. When it comes to Model the Way, relationship building can help give others a reason to care. By forging relationships, as a leader it can help bring teams or close one’s together. This in turn, can enable those one interacts with to model the way things should be handled when it comes to any situation at hand. In turn, relationship building relates to Inspire a Shared Vision, because it makes a strong leader take the time to listen to others. It is important to take the concerns of others to heart, because that can help create stronger relationships. This can allow others to then feel any passion that the leader has which can make the commitment to succeed
