If Nelson Mandela was asked to manage Unilever, where would Unilever be by now? I grew up in Buhera community where traditionally girls were engaged in forced marriages soon after their Junior High School (JHS). Unexpectedly in 2006, Dr Nathalie Kahle founded the Girls Empowerment Movement (GEM) which was against the tradition.
Most people uses the dimensions Leadership and management synonymously on the basis that they both hold some degree of authority. Likewise, I was wondering whether Dr Kahle was a good manager; her ability to plan, control and organise or a good leader; her desire for change. However, Social ecologist Peter Drucker argued that although there is a relationship, there is a line between leadership and management as he said “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing right things.”

She influenced the masses and later most people were satisfied by her decision. Of course not everyone will be satisfied but at least a leader need to satisfy the majority.
Finally, though there are some similarities between management and leadership, the two dimensions are distinctive. Organizations need both people who are envisioned and effective; leaders as well as those who are efficient and make plans using the organization’s glasses; managers. One can be a good leader at the same time hold good managerial skills. Both leaders and managers need to understand themselves yet the way they make decisions concerning people is different. Leadership consider all the 4E’s but management is much more of execution only.
