When I think about leadership the initial thoughts that come to my mind are first, people who like to inspire others, and also people who learn from previous people who are in leadership positions and then they move themselves up to a leadership position overtime in the organization. As we went over the different types of “Leadership Theories” in class the one that stood out the most to me was the servant leadership. This is because as stated in “Introduction to Leadership” it defines leadership as “ … a leader/follower relationship, the assigned leader may not always, in reality, be the real/previewed leader of the followers.”(pg.49) The leadership theory that most associates with this the definition of leadership was a servant leader. For example, when I first joined marching band I had no clue of what we were trying to achieve in this organization. Overtime, after being in band and serving the organization by volunteering, going to the band meetings, and practices. I learned what we wanted to achieve, and how we were expected to reach this goal before I ever had a leadership position in band. In order to do these things you must first have gone through the process of first serving your organization, this way you can clearly identify the common goal and understand everyone’s points of views to reach this common goal to be a good leader. My second reason that I believe in servant leadership is because it shows commitment and leadership into the organization that you are serving. As we discussed in the true colors activity the closest color that most associated with me was the color gold. The color gold meant that I believed in loyalty and caring for my organization that I am serving and being a helper to others by being caring.
