Leaders, an individual that people look up to for direction, inspiration, and guidance in life. Passion, influential, reliability, a vision, etc. These traits along with many more, are the things that make leaders great and successful. Everyone has different personality traits that make us capable of being leaders in this world and I learned that throughout this course. Everyone is different, whether good or bad, ethical or unethical, everyone has a leadership style all their own. “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader (John Quincy Adams).” I have had many leaders in and out of my life over the years and thus, my number one influence to lead has changed as well. I would say that I’m an authentic leader and I use relational empathy. Authentic leadership means I lead through honesty, and my morals. I try to live my life as honest as possible and to stick to my morals, and standards I’ve set. I also believe I relate to relational empathy because, I go beyond myself to understand others and what they may be dealing with or going through. I have realized throughout the course reading that there are many types of leadership and thus, I have taken the information and learned from that. I have learned that my leadership has changed over this semester just because of the learning from the course book. I have become a stronger leader I feel whether tutoring my kids or in my own life. I also think that, being a follower of certain topics and organizations has made me a better leader. Following is not always a bad thing to do, you can learn and gain more knowledge about the outside world, and yourself, through being a follower. Lastly, I still have aspects of my leadership I could work on and aspects that are strong enough already. I think that my passion and determination towards things in life, are my biggest strengths. I have learned valuable leadership lessons that I can use and even tell others about as well. My goals in life are vast because I want to accomplish a lot in my life and I think leading my life the right way, is important. My goal as of now, is to continue education to receive a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology. I’m motivated to push through more education to reach my goals of becoming successful in psychology because that is what I want in life. I want to help others and be successful in something that makes me happy in life, because it is not about the money. I think knowing about different leadership styles and types will help me in the future with jobs and dealing with employers. My objectives for my future are to eventually graduate my Master’s program, get a job, and to just live a good, happy life. I will attain these things with hard work and determination that I already possess inside of me, I’m very hard on myself at times because I want to do the best I can and I think that will continue to make me successful in life. Two things I will do to continue leadership in my future are one, to obtain an internship or field experience while in my program so I can learn how to lead when I become a professional in the psychology field and two, continue to learn about leadership from my job and volunteer position at MADD.
