Law of Diminishing Returns
The Law of diminishing returns is a key one in economics. It is used to explain many of the ways the economy works and changes. It is a relatively simple idea; spending and investing more and more in a product where one of the factors of production remains the same means the enterprise will eventually run out of steam. The returns will begin to diminish in the long run. If more fertilizer and better machinery are used on an acre of farmland, the yield will increase for a while but then begin to slow and become flat. A farmer can only get so much out of the land, and the more the farmer works, the harder it gets. The economic reason for diminishing returns of capital is as follows: When the capital stock is low, there are many workers for each machine, and the benefits of increasing capital further are great; but when the capital stock is high, workers already have plenty of capital to work with, and little benefit is to be gained from expanding capital further. For example, in a secretarial pool in which there are many more secretaries than computer terminals, each terminal is constantly being utilized and secretaries must waste time waiting for a free terminal. In this situation, the benefit in terms of increased output of adding extra terminals is high. However, if there are already as many terminals as secretaries, so that terminals are often idle and there is no waiting for a terminal to become available, little additional output can be obtained by adding yet another terminal.
Another application for this law is in Athletics, for runners, their investment is the time and energy put into training and the yield is hopefully improved fitness. Early in their running careers or early in the training program a couple of weeks of regular training would be rewarded with a considerable increase in fitness. Having achieved a very fit state though, two weeks of regular training will achieve a barely perceptible increase in fitness.

Valuing movement is the third of the five propositions to deliver this commitment in the ACARA curriculum. The Story of Babar by Jean De Brunhoff is a wonderful children’s book that revolves around an elephant named Babar who enters into, and becomes part of, French society. Babar runs away from the forest to what most likely is, Paris after a hunter brutally murders his mother. Once he enters Paris, a benevolent old lady takes care of him and she begins to ‘civilize’ him. She buys Babar clothes, educates him and teaches him the ways of the French. The story concludes with Babar returning to the forest, clothed, walking on two legs, and being crowned king.

Incontrovertible, physical education programs are getting more attention in the last few years. They are the key to increase teenager’s physical activity levels. Oil is a common example, as extracting oil is quit expensive. But this is another way prices allocate scarce resources. When the price of oil falls low-yield oil wells are closed down, because the cost of extracting oil from the well would exceed the price the oil would sell for. If the price later rose or more efficient ways of extracting oil was discovered the wells would then be re-opened. This has been the case for many oil wells in Venezuela and Canada.
When people asked me the question “what’s one piece of advice you would give to young men?” I responded “not to give up, to figure out what they love and work towards it.” My advice was written as if an American Marine speaking directly to them – words of encouragement, courage and fearlessness. Over the past decades our culture has changes dramatically. To which our nation was once a physically active nation. Yet now it seems that society discourages physical activity. The human race has been dependent on automobiles, discouraging people to walk or bike, increasing the chance of a poor life-style. Yet there are many factors that affect the achievement and maintenance of a healthy life. Young people are growing into a diverse society, which is characterized by rapid change, inactive work and leisure practices that influence unhealthy behaviors. By incorporating physical activity into peoples daily routine will increase their chances of being healthier, reducing certain diseases and learning how to avoid injuries. Physical education helps students improve their knowledge about health issues and practices that will lead to a more enjoyable life. Students playing and working in a team together develop social skills, teamwork, achieving goals, and development of self-esteem. Overall physical education provides the potential for a better life style.
But there are also studies that have examined the financial consequences of growth. Some have carried on the relationship between growth and profitability. It has been observed that over the growth of a company, its profits grow to a point where it peaked. The relationship between profit and growth is curvilinear, which could be explained by dysfunction trained by to be too large. ‘Beyond 2012 – outstanding physical education for all’ makes recommendations for schools and the Department for Education to secure the quality of PE in schools and draws out improvements made to PE and sport over the last four years. The Department of Education are looking on making improvements which have generated from the London Games in 2012. They are hoping to make a new strategy for PESS to help pupils become more engaged in sporting activities in their school curriculum. The Government are advising class teachers to raise their expectations by setting more challenging and competitive PE lessons, so pupils increase their performance to a higher level. Also, to engage them in regular and high intensity activities for the full period they have been given in their timetable. As previous studies have shown, when schools were visited, teachers set activities that were too easy for children which led to boredom and lack of motivation and had no planned extra curriculum activities for the pupils. However, schools with the best PE provision had excellent PE lessons with extra curriculum hours set up for them. In 2014, there was a funding of £360,000 to train primary teachers to specialise in PE. This was to ensure children developed ‘a sporting habit for life’. Some activity clubs we provide include, dancing, running, jump roping, basketball and soccer clubs, just to name a few. These clubs encourage kids to stay active. Our PE program also sends out monthly newsletters to the parents that give them ways to help their child live a healthy lifestyle. The National Association for Sport and Physical Education states, “Regular physical activity improves functional status and limits disability during the middle and later adult years. Physical activity contributes to quality of life, psychological health, and the ability to meet physical work demands.
