Salary The salary for a Law Enforcement consultant varies greatly depending on the experience that one has. Most of the time, a police department will bring in outside consultants from consulting firms or private practice when they are in need of their services. Typically consultants charge on an hourly basis. Research shows that experience plays a major role in the amount that a consultant charges for their services. When looking at the local, national, and federal levels altogether, one finds that consultants charge around $100-$530 per hour for their services. One of the reasons for this is due to the job title itself. When researching Law Enforcement Consulting jobs, one finds a variety of jobs and job description but rarely does one find an actual job description like the one mentioned above. The best way to break into this job industry is to join a consulting firm, one that specializes in Law Enforcement or Police Consulting. Rarely are consultants hired directly as an individual, unless through private practice, they are typically a part of a well-established firm and it is the firm that is hired as a part of an outside contract (Consulting Therapist Career Guide, 2017). Getting hired by a firm already established would give one a good start in this career. One should not depend on websites such as indeed.com and monster.com when looking for jobs within this career. It would be more beneficial for one to look for consulting firms to get hired within. That is because again, most police departments do not hire someone as a law enforcement consultant on an individual basis. Once you are hired with an organization, there is room for job growth and a chance to earn more money. That can only come with experience when hiring outside groups companies typically will want someone or a group with some experience and success and you can only get that by continuing to work hard and proving oneself as an expert in the field.
