Steven Avery was and is well know to Manitowoc County in Wisconsin. Steven Avery is a huge example of how law enforcemt can be held accountable for a civil liability case. Avery served 18 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Avery was presumed guilty before getting a chance to prove his innocence. Law states innocent until proven guilty. Manitowoc County is in the spot light again for the same offences. Avery continues to state he’s not guilty and continues to stand by his innocence. Law enforcement protects and serves and the court system was established to give every person a chance to prove their innocence or let the citizens of their county have a chance. Unfortunately, it was proven to once that law enforcement put the wrong man away for a serious crime. He’s currently is in the process, along with an out of state lawyer trying to prove law enforcement can fail twice.

I don 't think this case was ever going to trial. Mr. Avery of $1 million, knowing that he was poor, not well liked would likely accept it. Wisconsin legislature was preparing to compensate Mr. Avery for his wrongful conviction. That probably worried the County and its carriers, who believed that Mr. Avery was no longer willing to accept a reduced offer. The $400,000 from the legislature would not have gone to Mr. Avery 's attorneys because they were operating on a contingency basis. They were only going to get paid if there was a recovery from the lawsuit. The $400,000 likely would have alleviated Mr. Avery of any debts and helped with living expenses, and possibly given him reason to continue fighting the civil
