The participants that will be involved in my study will be student and their parents. It is been proven that parental involvement in the educational setting often results in better academic achievement than if parents are not involved. The participants I will interview will be eighth grade students bot male and female. After I interview the eighth grade students, I will interview their parents to get more data and information for my research. I will find thirty Latino students from the school that I am currently working at. Although it will be randomly selected, the student must be latino. In order to collect data I need to have a smaller sample because it takes more time since I am meeting with them and asking open ended questions.Also try to organize and categorize the opinions and perceptions of the students views and their parents perceptions. I will try to find a pattern through all the interviews of parent involvement. I will also try to categorize the similarities I find within students whose parents are involved and those whose parents are not involved in the education life.
Data Analysis Steps:
For my data analysis I will begin by reviewing my transcripts, all of the interview notes that I had taken.After I have reviewed my transcripts from the interview, I recorded and group any similar phrases. Since it a school setting I assume most of the information may be similar, however everyone is different. In this case, I am assuming an example of a category would be Parents who attended their students sport games or school functions, volunteering or helping out with homework. I grew up in a traditional Latino family where tradition and values were very important. Since I will be the individual giving the interviews, the participants may feel a bit more comfortable with me. Some Latinos parents do not speak English, therefore, I can make them feel more comfortable by speaking Spanish and there is no language barrier. I was fortunate to have parents who also spoke English so it was easy to communicate with the instructors and my mother was also very supportive.However, many of my close friends had parents that were the opposite of mine. I saw the struggles they were faced with and their needs to be filled. I was This research influences me, because I will soon be a school counselor. I will be working in schools of various grade levels. I will want to know as many ways as I can to provide the proper support for students who can benefit from it. If I know the reason as to why so many latino students are failing or have behavioral problems I can see where the root of the problem begins. This can enable me to help the student use techniques to cope and better support them so they can
