A majority of the Latin American nations are characterized by a strong patriarchal society, placing the male figure in the highest authority role within the household and workforce, showing the gender inequalities and discrimination on the female figure. Because this is seen as traditions, today’s century has been changing it. Slowly, women, in Latin America are being seen and becoming a voice for their nation. Women, like Eva Peron, have shown how their country should be treated, especially when it comes towards women. Following Eva Peron’s step, Latin women are now entering into the world of politics to make a difference. Latin women are now becoming Presidents, to show that they are capable of running a country and making a difference. Michelle Bachelet is an example of a latina woman who succeed to become president, in Chile, and made a difference. In another interview, Bachelet talks about how important gender equality is around the world. Bachelet states “gender equality and women’s empowerment bring huge economic benefits.”(Braw) This shows that she’s a strong believer in gender equality, making her country to gain success and to set forth an example to other countries. This year, on November 17, Bachelet was able to acknowledge the Philippines for allowing gender equality (Ongsiako). People are already seeing that Bachelet is making a difference in her country, and with that, it is showing her success to change the world. Also, this year, Bachelet had planned to allow free education for poor college students, seeing the education will help them to also gain success.
