“Oh, mirror in the sky/What is love?” A question many ask when involved in a difficult relationship. “Landslide”, a song written by Stevie Nicks is one that resonates and sends a powerful message to anyone who hears it. This song represents change, love lost, and the feeling of life crashing down around you, ultimately becoming a landslide. Nicks is able to use ethos, pathos, and logos to really connect with her audience, which is one of the reasons this song is so meaningful, though it was not the most popular right away. “Landslide,” was written in Aspen, Colorado, in 1973, by Nicks herself. This was a year before she, and fellow singer/songwriter and lover Lindsey Buckingham, became members of Fleetwood Mac. The song was recorded in 1975 and was on the album Fleetwood Mac. Nicks’ intended audience for this song was no one at the time. She had written it to express her feelings, while looking out at the snow-capped mountains out her window. Her recent album with Buckingham did not work out with the record company, the couple was not getting along, and she is quoted saying, "looking out at the Rocky Mountains pondering the avalanche of everything that had come crashing down on us ... at that moment, my life truly felt like a landslide in many ways.” (Wikipedia) When Fleetwood Mac discovered Nicks and Buckingham, the audience began to change.
