My freshman year of high school, I was the only freshman named to the varsity roster. The following year, the leaders of the team all graduated, so I decided it was my turn to establish myself as a leader on the team. As a child I was not in to many sports or involved in school activities. Going through high school I figured out that being involved in a sport or a school club would make my high school experience better. The first and only sport I chose to do was track. Track changed my whole high school experience and life. I learned to never give up, and it kept me out of trouble throughout my four years of high school.
I pick up the three point five foot lacrosse stick. I held it in my hand for the first time; it felt exceptional in the way it fit. The aluminum shaft was an acceptable, light weighted stick. It was not the most durable , yet it had a cold hard feeling. I went home that day excited about my new stick that I had gotten. Immediately after getting out of the car I ran to the biggest wall I could find and started playing wall ball. I noticed the battered down string tied to the head of the stick. I had Just got done with lacrosse practice and about to walk down to the car when all of the sudden a pink fluffy polar bear flew down and grabbed me and threw me onto its back i was actually not scared i enjoyed this odd ride when all of the sudden i saw a shiny silver tiny… peanut! It smiled a weird peanut smile and jumped into my ear and wisped a date. 2024 all i did was nod my head and poof we turned the oddest yellow in the world! I have been playing softball since the age of six. From the time I could walk, my dad had me out in our yard teaching me how to swing a bat and throw a ball. Growing up, softball is all I have known. Both of my parents played softball and baseball growing up and in college. They both have taught me everything they know about the sport. Softball has taught me more than the physical aspect of the game. In softball a player can strike out seven out of ten times and still be considered a good hitter. Everyone has rough days, but I have realized that I just need to come back the next day and work harder. My parents have showed me that working hard at it will help me succeed. Whenever I have a bad game, instead of getting down, I take it as motivation to try harder the next time.
As more of my teammates began to show up, I recognized most of them. However, I learned later that if I went on to play in the Spring, this would not be the same exact team I would play with. With only twenty minutes until we began,I put on all of my gear and my dad gave me a thorough warm up. I have been a four year letter-winner in volleyball and basketball. Athletics have been a crucial part of developing my character and work ethic. In sports, you must work together with your team to reach your goals. Trust and communication skills are vital and are tested every day. The failure and setbacks I have faced through sports have helped me to believe in myself and have the self-confidence that it takes to be successful in athletics and in life. As a senior captain of the volleyball and basketball teams, my leadership has improved tremendously as high school has progressed. Being a leader holds me accountable and I aim to be a role model for younger teammates on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.

Lacrosse should it become an official high school sport? As this topic comes in many states in the nation there is a huge controversy in the world of lacrosse. Many states on the east coast have made it an school sport, but that really do us people in the midwest now does it? Just in the last couple of years the NAIA has made lacrosse and official school sport. Which is a huge deal for people like me who would like to play at the next level but don’t have the money to play in the NCAA. There is twenty two states in the United States that has recognized lacrosse as an official school sport. Missouri is not one of those states however. The lack of funding in the high schools in the state of Missouri is what is preventing the sport grow at the pace it should be growing, the amount of teams, and the lack of coaches. Missouri State High School Activities Accusations or also known as MSHSAA should make lacrosse a recognized school sport so that the sport can keep growing at the rate it is.
‘Tweet’ I heard a whistle go. It was time for my first lacrosse practice. I had never played in my life, and I was very nervous, but excited at the same time. My team all ran up to the coach in full pads, still getting used to the huge weight of the helmet. “Pass to each other for 10 minutes”, the coach yelled. I had never even passed. Each game, my passion grew. Each team, new memories and lifelong friends were made. Sports sometimes make me feel disappointment and at loss; but it taught me to be resilient to a lot of things, like how to thrive under pressure and come out on top. Being the team captain of my high school’s football and lacrosse team showed me how having a big responsibility to bring a group together to work as one is compared to many situations in life. Not only do I adore reading, but also I am also passionate about playing sports, and also love to express myself through my art. Recently, I started to play lacrosse and immediately fell in love with the game. Lacrosse became my everything and I spent my days begging my dad to throw the ball for “just five minutes”. I’ve always been the type of person that truly enjoys athletics and have participated in nearly all sports offered to me. I started playing sports in elementary with club softball and basketball. As I entered my middle and high school years I was able to add the school sanctioned sports to my list of activities. This afforded me the opportunity of competing in volleyball, basketball, golf, track and softball. The camaraderie and life lessons of sports seemed invaluable to me.
