WOW what foul language corey is saying towards his mom! I’ve noticed many ways parents treat and take care of their children throughout the years. This lack of “great” parenting, which is not really “great” is something that has been criticized for many years. In my first year of school, when I was in kindergarten many students acted different than me. Some students treated the teacher differently and gave attitude to them, while other students were very nice and cooperative with the teacher. “ Stop it and leave me alone!!!” screamed a friend of mine to Mrs. Johnson a kindergarten teacher . Lack of respect can be viewed in many different ways and it 's different for each individual. Lack of respect is to not respect a specific individual the way they should be. “ Shut Up mom I do what I want ” said my cousin Edwin. It is sometimes considered as disrespectful, which means to be insolent with someone in an act or be offensive towards them. Lack of respect comes from the word respectful and lack means to not give enough. You are not give enough respect to that specific person. I love my mom and she is always great helping me with homework. I always say thank you to her because I appreciate it and she taught me that when someone helps me I need to say thank you. These are called manners and are lacked by many students and many adults. Manners are taught by your parents as a child and if they are not taught it leads to disrespect. In my third year of school I was in second grade and one of my friends slapped the teacher in the arm during group work. Mrs. Johnson was a great teacher and I saw she was just trying to help my friend Luis but he didn 't appreciate it and he hit her. I asked Luis “why did you do that?”. “ I always hit my mom and sometimes even leave my food at on the floor and table without picking up for myself and she pays no meaning to it” he said. Respect is a such a simple concept and a virtue that should be simple to follow. It means treating other people and animals in a dignified manner. In today’s time frame the term disrespect can be defined by many different things. The dictionary defines disrespect as the lack of respect or courtesy. In the military disrespect can be show as not only talking back, but hand gestures, body language, the emphasis of your voice when responding to a command, or even not acknowledging one command. Out of all the possible signs of disrespect I think personally that talking back, body language and the emphasis of your voice are the major ones that can get you in trouble. The word integrity is defined in the dictionary as “adhering to moral and ethical principles” or simply, “honesty.” It is having a state of mind where a person believes in doing the right thing even if no one is paying attention. These are the people who have set morals for themselves, and they stick to them no matter how tempting it may be to disobey them. It’s all about self control and making sticking to your morals a habit. Making habits starts when people are young and impressionable, such as in high school.
Proper respect for others begins by a person respecting their self. Respect is developed by expressing honor, leadership, value, and trust in a person. If everyone respects everyone someday, the world will become a seventh heaven. It is important to be respectful for safety, to abide by the law, because children are influenced by their elders’ actions, and because God says so. Motivation from peers can help a person realize there is always room to improve the level of respect a person exhibits. Respect was, is, and always will be a positive attribute for everyone to strive for in their lives.
According to the ABC News survey, 73 percent of Americans feel manners are worse today than they were 20 or 30 years ago. Although character education is a hot topic in schools across the nation, education in maners often receives scant attention; with growing demands on teaching time, etiquette is rarely a priority. It might be a mistake to ignore the adage that actions speak louder than words, however. Teachers who teach manners said they notice a real difference in students' attitudes, in the way they treat one another, and in their schoolwork. Although some might say that manners are to be taught from the parents, the places children learn to socialize are not only at home, but also at school; it is their second home. A child either learns different moral values from his home or from his school. These days with both of the parents working, a child rarely gets the opportunity to learn moral and social values from home. In the past, although the parents were working, grandparents took care of their grandchildren and taught them important lessons of life, however, this is no longer prevalent as more and more families get unconcerned of teaching manners to young people. Of course not all the parents are failing to teach manners, but it is surprising to see many adults who do not know the correct ways of being respectful. Then how are they to educate their children? Thus, the only way we can ensure our future generation to learn etiquette is by schools.
All throughout Elementary school teachers and parents would say, “Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words will never hurt you”, but in a way they were wrong. My father married my step-mother who had two children around my age. The oldest was a very normal kid, but the second was autistic. Despite his autism, he was a very sweet kid and when it came to the subject of animals he was a genius, however this made no difference to his peers. He would be referred to as “retard” or other hurtful names behind his back. His brother, himself, and myself all went to the same school and his brother and I would have to deal with these immature students. They would pick on him constantly, but the saddest part is he could never tell that they were picking on him; in his mind he thought that was how everyone played. I would have to talk to these students, but they never understood the problem, “he can’t tell” or “he’s having fun” they would say. In no way does that make it right. Just because someone can’t tell that you are picking on them or doesn’t hear you say the hurtful comments, shouldn’t allow you to disrespect them.
Most people go through life and always hear about the word respect, but they don’t know what it means. Respect is the esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person. There are things in life you need to hold in respect. Respect for yourself, respect for others, and respect for property. Respect is taught to people everywhere and it is even taught to them in their religions. Respect is the very aspect that keeps everything in your life.
A social norm is classified as a standard expectation of what is the correct or deemed acceptable conduct that a member of a society has. The social norm that I chose to violate is the one where as I describe, you evade people’s personal space. What defines giving people their personal space and not getting too close, is that out of respect in my opinion, people need to have space to breathe and to move. If you get too close to people, either the person is going to think you are sexually intimidating him or she, you are just creepy, or even worse think you are rude for intimidating a right people have to be inches away from you. As I was getting ready to do the assignment of monitoring the reactions I would get for violating any social norm of my choice, I had a hard time thinking about which social norm I was going to
In this project, we were asked to violate a social norm in a public areas and make observations on what we saw and how our audience responded. The social norm that I choose to violate was to do some weird thing in the middle of the zebra-crossing by making other people wait. This experiment was quite fun and embarrassing to see the face of people who were waiting for my weird act in the middle of the road. I went with my friends to do this experiment in front of Fayard Hall. I monitored the reactions of many people from the front screen of their vehicles, from their repetitive horn sound, etc, throughout the experiment to observe the good result. This violation of social norms seems to be very dangerous, but still I tried my best.
Respect is a behavior that shows another person moral and ethical acceptance. Showing respect for another, even when not deserved, is considered to be a good sign of breeding in times past, but now as where society has changed, dissing "show disrespect for" has become more accepted, this behavior suggests a cultural shift from rewarding kindness and self-restraint to applauding a more open expression of hospitality through rudeness. Perhapes there is a lessening of concern over being respectable, along with an increased vigilance oto make sure one is respected.Concludeing that Civility must beging with the individual person making small sacraficiesfor others.
Integrity means the quality of being honest. Your integrity is tested every day in school and often people chose to disregard their morals and perform dishonest actions. These actions include but are not limited to plagiarism, copying a friend’s homework, or cheating on a test. It is also considered wrong to allow a friend to cheat off of you or copy your homework. Just like every other student in high school I am guilty of all of these things.
What is being rude? Being rude according to its definition is being offensively impolite or ill-mannered. In todays society, whether its at home, in school, at the store, at work, or even on social media, the act of being rude is on the rise significantly.
The second form of respect is the respect of property. This includes anything from writing on a desk at school to stealing from a department store. Property, whether it is the school's, a company's, a stranger's, or a friends, should always be respected. Respect means taking that extra few seconds to drive the speed limit so as not to hit anyone or anything. It means not smashing a pumpkin at Halloween just for fun. It means not throwing that piece of trash on the ground. That is respect.
Arbab Khatoon, 16, was stalked and raped by three men. Seven hours after Arbab reported this to the police her father stabbed her over and over again until she died. His reasoning? “My daughter lost her virginity before marriage. Rape does not justify that at all. Arbab brought dishonor to our family and needed to pay for it” (Chesler). The “category” this murder falls under is an Honor Killing. Honor Killings have been seen worldwide and continue to grow in the amount of victims. Occurring mostly in Middle-Eastern countries, more than any other, this type of killing is based solely on values and beliefs. How does one value their reputation over their own wives and daughters? Honor Killings are unjust and should be tried as a hate crime towards women.
School, in essence, functions as a ladder to the future. The farther up the ladder a person goes, the more prepared for real life he will find himself. Respect is one of the keys to getting up the ladder and succeeding in many aspects of life. I grew up respecting my elders: whether it was my grandparents or the librarian, I have always had respect. The regard I have developed for teachers has come from knowing that I will need their help to make it through school and I can only get it by being respectful and polite.
