Recommended: Social identity and self identity

Identity Politics are arguments in politics that focuses on the self-interest and perspectives of self-recognized social interest groups and methods where in people’s politics can be formed based on their aspects of their own identity through social organizations. (Cressida, n.d.) Identity politics is a phenomenon that started first at the radical borders of liberal democratic societies in which rights of people are renowned. Likewise, the expression "Identity Politics" is not typically used to allude to developments inside single-gatherings or tyrant states that are radical. (Kauffman, 1990)
The practice of Identity Politics has already existed for a long time, but the term and the movements that are connected to it really started during the end of the 20th century. There are diverse developments in which Identity Politics are discovered, examples are class, gay and lesbian, feminist, inability, and ethnic movements and these movements are retroactively connected to Identity Politics. Not only is Identity Politics limited to major racial or gender divisions of our time, but it is also encompasses the sexual orientation, ethnicity, citizenship status and other instances wherein a group that is specified feels oppressed or downgraded of they feel that they are the minority. Identity Politics is, of course, self-regarding but it is not necessary that all the members of a given group are involved in it. Since it is self-regarding, it is about the assembly and demonstration of oneself and this matters to all of the people. This is in light of the fact that the term itself infers alienation from the straight individuals. The LGBT Community is said to think about the straight, hetero individuals as a divide bunch. Many social movements regarding the LGBT Community were made. The LGBT social development is a political philosophy and in the meantime a social development. It pushes the full acknowledgement of the LGBT individuals in the society. In these movements, LGBT people and their allies, who are not necessarily gay, have a long history of campaigning and fighting for what is now known or termed as the LGBT rights.
