Can a radiation therapist be considered a hero? Radiation therapists help people in many ways, although it can be a very stressful job. A radiation therapist helps people struggling with cancer receive medicine dosages they need. These therapists can work in a variety of settings like hospitals and clinics. People who like to help others in need should become a radiation therapist. Radiation therapist provides radiation to patients’ as prescribed by a radiologist according to established practices and standards (“Radiation Therapist” What’s para. 1). These therapist treat cancer and other diseases in patients by administering radiation treatments (“Radiation Therapists” para. 1).Furthermore, giving patients treatment can take up to 30 minutes (“Radiation Therapist Career” para. 3). Mostly all treatment sessions are conducted independently (“Radiation Therapist” What’s para. 3). Radiation therapist should be psychologically capable of working with cancer patients (“Radiation Therapist Career” para. 4). Most radiation therapist work full time because appointments are scheduled in advance, so they have a regular work schedule (“Radiation Therapists” para. 12). However, some radiation therapist can be on-call therapists (“Radiation Therapist Career” para. 8). However, some therapists work irregular hours and weekend hours (“Radiation Therapist” What’s para. 6). Some duties for a radiation therapist are to explain and answer questions about treatment plans (“Radiation Therapists” para. 9). Therapist protect themselves and the patients from exposure of radiation (“Radiation Therapists” para. 9). Radiation therapist might do a lot of standing or walking, while waiting for the treatment to end (“Radiation Therapist Career” para.... ... middle of paper ... ...rantee that you are to be cancer free, it only postpones the cancer. People that genuinely love to help people should look into this career; people nowadays are only out to help themselves and not others. A radiation therapist could end up saving someone’s life; therefore, a person that likes to help people should consider this career. Works Cited “Radiation Therapist Career Profile.” Truity. 2014. Generally when you think of a hero, who do you envision? Most likely, you picture a strong and imposeing figure, someone capable of performing in high pressure situations, demonstrating bravery and passion to help his/her fellow man. Those who typically fit that role in society are firefighters, policemen, and soldiers. Those people deserve all the credit and recognition they receive for their courageous acts. However, what about individuals or groups who aren’t necessarily on the “frontlines” physically protecting others and saving lives, but who work extremely hard to improve the lives of others in some way? These everyday people deserve credit as well. After all, to the people they help, these volunteers or activists are heroes. An example of such a group is the Greensboro Four, a few African American college students in the early 1960s who helped change the landscape of segregation in the Jim Crow South.
A hero is someone you look up to, someone who has done something to inspire you, someone who is your role model. In our society, there are many different types of heroes—family, friends, teachers, firefighters, and police officers to name a few. But a hero that stands out to me is a U.S. soldier. Soldiers risk their lives every day just so we can have our freedom.
Being a hero means to be willing to risk your life for others. Such as, Pat Tillman. Pat Tillman was a fantastic football player and he loved playing it too. Despite that, Pat Tillman turned down a 3.6million dollar contract to the Arizona Cardinals to go fight the war against terrorism. He ended up dieing from friendly fire. All this goes to show how brave Pat Tillman was to risk his life and give up his football career to go fight in Afghanistan to help protect the American people. Likewise, the people that helped evacuate New York City after the
The career that I chose for a possible advancement beyond a staff radiation therapist was radiation oncology supervisor. Overall the main day to day duties of a radiation oncology supervision is to make sure the department is running smoothly by making sure their staff are appropriately completing their duties. They do this by making sure the staff are sticking to the standards and ethics implemented by their profession and the hospital.1 As part of their job it is their duty to hire employees and makes sure those employees are trained to provide good care to cancer patients.1 They have many administrative day to day duties like planning budgets, developing policies, identifying problems within the department and developing solutions.1 The
There are essentially three main types of cancer treatments; surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Surgery allows doctors to effectively remove tumors from a clear plane. Chemotherapy uses drugs to treat the tumor; but often the drugs affect other healthy cells in the process. Using radiation as a treatment can be either precise or vague. Many health stigmas can come from the vague forms of radiation or conventional radiation therapy. Conventional radiation treats both the unhealthy and healthy cells, therefore exposing healthy cells to harmful radiation (Radiation Oncology, 2011, p.6). When healthy cells are exposed to gamma radiation they are also exposed to ionizing radiation. The ionization can cause “breakage of chemical bonds or oxidization (addition of oxygen atoms)” in a cell; the main impact of this is on a cell’s DNA, if two strands of DNA break it can result in “mutations, chromosome aberrations, ...
Nationalism is great for a country ("Nationalism”). It provides a confidence and sense of togetherness that ever country should have. Nationalism is defined as having patriotic feelings toward their country (“Nationalism). People are able to show their love for their country by reciting their national anthems, pledge of allegiance, and spreading positive thoughts of their country ("Nationalism”). There are extreme nationalists as well, which can cause serious problems ("Nationalism). Sometimes nationalists take their pride to far and it turns into an evil downwards spiral. Take Adolf Hitler for example, he ended up killing six million Jews and was at the center of the foundation of Nazism. Extreme nationalists can end up hurting innocent people because they might not believe in the same things or for absolutely no reason at all. The other end of extreme nationalists would be the people that are harmed because of being huge nationalists for their country. There are groups of people whose jobs are to go after nationalists from other countries because they may potentially cause a threat to their own country. In general nationalism is a great trait for a country to possess, but certain situations and people can cause nationalism to become a deadly weapon. Although nationalism has its benefits with international pride, in extreme cases it could lead to the downfall of a country or strip innocents of their safety.
The team includes a radiation oncologist, radiation physicist, dosimetrist, radiation therapist, and a radiation therapy nurse. Each member of the team has a specific role in the treatment of each patient. “The radiation oncologist is a doctor specially trained to treat cancer patients with radiation.” (American Cancer Society p. 4) The oncologist will work with the dosimetrist to determine the plan for treatment. “The radiation physicist is the person who makes sure the radiation equipment is working as it should and that it gives you the dose prescribed by your radiation oncologist.” (American Cancer Society p. 4) “The dosimetrist is supervised by the radiation physicist, this person helps the radiation oncologist plan the treatment.” (American Cancer Society p. 4) “The radiation therapist is the person who operates the radiation equipment and positions you for treatment.” (American Cancer Society p. 4) Every member of the team is important to ensure the treatment is delivered safely and effectively as
Some definitions of heroes are people, who have noble qualities, and put the lives of others before their own life. They are expected to be reasonable and calm, during scary times, like when a shooting is going on, looking out for
What is a hero? A hero can be classified as a number of things. A hero can be a person who in the opinions of others has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. Ervin Staub, a holocaust survivor from Hungary and as scholar on altruistic behavior, has written, "Goodness like evil often begins in small steps. Heroes evolve; they aren't born. Very often the rescuers make only a small commitment at the start, to hide someone for a day or two. But once they had taken that step, they begin to see themselves differently, as someone who helps. What starts as mere willingness becomes intense involvement." The business man, Oskar Schindler, demonstrated a powerful example

If one is affected by cancer, there are treatments to help take away this illness affecting their body. This essay is about a specific type of treatment for cancer, radiation therapy. There are different types of forms of particles for radiation, for example, protons and waves like x-rays and visible light. These types of radiations are grouped on how much energy they contain because they can cause different effects. A low type of energy radiation can be radio waves and heat, also known as non-ionizing radiation.
Another treatment that is used to help a cancer patients overcome the disease is radiation therapy. Although very affective and used commonly, thi...
Occupational therapy jobs are on track to increase 21% between 2016 to 2026. The need for occupational therapists is increasing because more people are aging and wanting to remain independent.
