After looking into the journey and obstacles he faced to scale this dangerous and intimidating mountain, I noticed with each stop at each rest area he had learned something different about himself or established a new outlook about the journey. But it was not until they were in the final leg of the journey in which he learned his greatest lesson about himself. It was during the last leg that he realized he had spent most of the day looking at “how far he had to go,” instead of relishing in “how far he had come.” After stating he normally views things as “the glass half empty” I realized, I too, have a similar outlook on life. It was in this moment that I realized perception has a large impact on how I maneuver throughout life, bringing the popular phrase “mind over matter” to my
Baby narrates her story through her naïve, innocent child voice. She serves as a filter for all the events happening in her life, what the narrator does not know or does not comprehend cannot be explained to the readers. However, readers have reason not to trust what she is telling them because of her unreliability. Throughout the beginning of the novel we see Baby’s harsh exposure to drugs and hurt. Jules raised her in an unstable environment because of his constant drug abuse. However, the narrator uses flowery language to downplay the cruel reality of her Montreal street life. “… for a kid, I knew a lot of things about what it felt like to use heroin” (10). We immediately see as we continue reading that Baby thinks the way she has been living her life is completely normal, however, we as readers understand that her life is in fact worse then she narrates. Baby knows about the impermanent nature of her domestic security, however, she repeatedly attempts to create a sense of home each time her and Jules move to another apartm...

Introduction- In order to succeed in life, you have to be open to trying new experiences, even if you know you might fail. If you do fail, you have to persevere and try again if you want to reach your goal. To become better than you are, you must be exposed to new ideas and moments of failure and doubt.
Challenges is what keeps everybody from moving forward. To beat the challenges, it must take courage to put up with them. In the book “Ender’s Shadow” by Scott Card, we see each character have a challenge. Some pass through these challenges, but others fall behind. Bean, the protaginist of the book, was fighting for his life by trying to get some food on the streets. Later in the story he goes to Battle School and Command School. But to get where he is, he deals with a lot of challenges from the streets, Battle School, and Command School.
To embrace a challenge means to take it on and to try your best at it. This is what the whole concept of growth mindset is about. Dweck the lead researcher behind this topic states in the first chapter of her book Mindset “ people with the growth mindset were not labeling themselves and throwing up their hands, they were ready to confront challenges and keep working” (9). This concept of growth mindset is also used in the world of sports. You can tell throughout the history of sports the most successful and famous athletes had a secret. The secret was that in the hardest of trials
The point when considering individual encounters, "The Mother" by Gwendolyn Brooks touches on the frequently passionate theme of premature birth. This sonnet was transformed decades back, yet still remains significant right up 'til the present time. Tolerating premature birth and the conclusion can in fact be a testing undertaking for a lot of people, while others adjust to it without much of an issue. Gwendolyn Brooks, in this great work, permits us to investigate the mom’s perspective purpose of fetus removal via an abortion and how a mother reacts to her interesting circumstance. All around the lyric the speaker hints at distress, using symbolism, concerning the theme of premature birth and its conclusions by exhibiting to us her perspective, memories, love, unpretentious triggers, and disarray.
Failure is often attributed to an overwhelming challenge. Individuals often blame their circumstances for their inability to achieve their goals. But contrary to popular belief, challenges and adversity are the necessary soil for the growth of success. By presenting both adversity and successes, the texts Breaking Night by Liz Murray, and Balotelli by Luca Caioli present the notion that great adversity can be the breeding ground for successful individuals.
obstacles that are in front of us.” Most people, during their time in this world, face a challenge or
A physical journey occurs as a direct result of travelling from one place to another over land, sea or even space. The physical journey can occur individually or collectively, but always involves more than mere movement. Instead physical journeys are accompanied by inner growth and development, catalysed by the experiences and the decisions that impact the outcome of the journey. These journey concepts and the interrelationship between physical and emotional journeys is exemplified in the text; The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, the children’s book Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers and the film Stand By Me directed by Rob Reiner.
Obstacles are common and they normally occur within our life journeys. Although their occurrence is not expected, obstacles that we face in life makes our lives become not only challenging and more interesting but also more meaningful. They challenge us to keep trying to do our best to achieve what we have been dreaming of and looking for. Obstacles bring impacts to our lives; for some people they can be the sources of motivation to challenge their own abilities while others may want to avoid them because they do not have enough courage as well as willingness to spend many efforts to fulfill their goals.
Getting somewhere is not just the destination, but even more so the journey. The goals are our destination and obstacle and temptations litter the voyage. Like Odysseus, achieving these goals is not a cinch. Obstacles must be faced or avoided, and temptations should be resisted.
In conclusion, to the above points, anyone is capable of triumphing over adversity. No matter how hard the circumstances are, each individual is able to. Unfortunately for some, they lack the need to triumph and in the end fail to beat adversity. Passion and commitment is all it takes to knock down those barriers and succeed in life. “Become the person you have always dreamt of being”.

...nk of as accomplishments that shaped who we are. Measuring ourselves against our personal achievents and the adversity we face is one of the many ways that we can examine our lives and potential. Adversity plays such a big role in our lives that it's almost invisible. We don't realize that practically everyday we face it and set it up to determine who we are going to be. Sometimes people are given a really crappy deck of cards and don’t know how to handle them. When were in a difficult situation, or faced with adversity we have two choices. Battle through it and become an even greater individual because of it or succumb to the situation and give up. It it all depends on how much determination a person has to fight through the adversity and in turn, become a better person.
