The Koresh Dance Company performed “Classic Koresh” at The Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts, located on the Ocean County College Campus in Toms River, NJ. This dance performance was intriguing due to the unique style of dance, a form of contemporary modern. This performance was inside the theater of the Grunin Center, which had comfortable seating and a non-crowded audience; the orchestra of the audience was about half full. All individuals sitting in the audience were very polite, all clapping after every dance and not talking while the dancers were performing. As with the temperature of the theater, it was chilly since the air conditioning was on, but it would have been terrible for the dancers if it was hot in the theater because they were working so hard dancing on stage; therefore, I understood why they had the air on and I eventually got used to it. A duo of female dancers performed center stage, as four musicians accompanied them on the side of the stage. The timbre featured a string quartet, who certainly added a different feel to a dance performance. The piece started off with the stage lights on the string players, giving them recognition before the dance began; I found this to be a nice way to give focus on the musicians. The tempo was andante, leading to the dance being very mellow and gentle. With this being said, the dynamics were between mezzo piano and mezzo forte. There was much use of crescendos and decrescendos and there was a specific rhythmic beat of duple meter, throughout Air on a String. It is also in the major key, it is dissonant, and it is in binary form. Overall, I enjoyed this piece due to the simple fact of live musicians playing a peaceful song for the dancers to dance
