In some regions of the world such as China, a one child policy was established due to overpopulation (Jian) . One of the reasons for overpopulation was because of the vast number of births from exceptionally young couples. Locally, in 2009, 1,991 children were born to women between the ages of fifteen and nineteen in Rock Island ("Illinois Teen Births by County") which was a shocking amount due to the dramatic drop in teen pregnancies nationwide (See Figure 1 below).
The adoption process can take more than one year and cost a family up to $18,000. Couples wait anxiously for the government’s approval, then the government assigns them a baby. Couples are given nothing more than a picture of the baby. They don’t have the child’s medical information, who the parents are, etc. Finally, three days after the arrival in Beijing, the couples get to meet their baby for the first time. Under Chairman Mao in the ‘50s and ‘60s, China’s population exploded. By 1980, Mao’s successors limited families to having only one child. Sometimes, families were allowed to have two. This was the largest human population control effort in human history. China’s population is coming under control, but there are consequences no one intended. Couples feel that they must have a boy because boys often carry on the family name, provide work and they stay with their parents at old age. The babies adopted by Americans are only a fraction of the millions of girls believed to be missing from China’s population. Gender selection will lead to distortion of society; only the rich can afford modifications. Since the rich are modified and the poor are not, the modified people will rule over the others. Social problems, such as sexism, will be genetically set in our bodies. Will there for sure be equality though? The public needs to do something about these technologies or the scientists will just keep using them. People need to come together and share their ideas and reasonings so people can reflect more on the values and worth. In India, people are speaking of sex selection as a good idea. As if manufacturing humans and their attributes is ethical. However, sex discrimination will only worsen; India already has started a gendercide of females. Women are used as guinea pigs for eugenic practices; society should be working together towards human rights and equality.

Women continue to experience sexism, the idea of traditional gender roles. Women are still thought to be more involved in taking care of their children and the household. Women often face unconscious stereotypes in the workplace as well. In some cases, women have a less change of obtaining better, and higher paying jobs. Women often don’t get promoted to higher positions in office, despite their qualifications and experiences. Female candidates running for public office experience forms of sexism as well. The variations and adaptions of society are evidence that reinforce the idea that gender is formed under social construction rather than the essence from biology alone.

Many scientist and specifically sociologists are concerned with the population on planet Earth. Many couples today are choosing not to have children. This choice does not just effect the couples personally, however it effects the whole country's demographic. The increase in childlessness among couples generates economic and social problems. Many countries are facing this problem. Hara in a journal article mentions that Japan and Germany are a couple of the countries that are going through childlessness (Hara, 2008).Today, more than 80 countries depend on immigration to prevent the populations from declining, due to the death rate being higher than birth rate. As the realization of women as an exploited group increases, the similarity of their position to that of racial and ethnic groups becomes more apparent. Women are born into their sexual identity and are easily distinguished by physical and cultural characteristics. In addition, women now identify that they are all sufferers of an ideology (sexism) that tries to justify their inferior treatment.

The idea of Sexism is not enforced by the opposite sex, men, but is cultured by those who accept and abide by society’s expectations of a woman’s reality. As Kathleen Hanna once said, “While sexism hurts women most intimately, it also damages men severely.” Every human has their own mind, their own decisions; if we let other people command us and make choices for us, we lose our sense of individuality and uniqueness. Sexism is a choice, a way of thinking that we can choose to accept, or deny. It affects the self and the community as a whole, and should not exist. As we can accept that the world is filled with tribulations such as sexism, it is not a concept that cannot go extinct, rather, should be used as a counter example of how we should behave in society.
This comes in the form of significant pay gaps between the sexes, rape culture, and how society views women and their roles within it. For many women, this has become a relevant issue as more women begin speaking out about the injustices against them and begin to revolutionize these issues, much like how Mina Loy revolutionized the issues within her time. One thing that I have noted is that within both periods of time, 1914 and 2016 there are many similar claims that prove to be relevant, one of Mina Loy’s claims that still speaks to the needs of today, was her belief that the “only method [of upheaval] is absolute demolition (Kocher).” This still holds true within both time periods. However, while there are claims that today’s society will accept there are also some that they will reject, one of these claims would be her one-sided feminism. Feminism has evolved since 1914, meaning that feminism does not only include females, it includes males too, which promotes equality for both sexes. This was never evident within her
