The battle of Kokoda was fought in Papua New Guinea during 1942. The Kokoda Battle was fought through treacherous rainforests, harsh weather, steep mountainous land and with a lack of food, water and the basic survival supplies. Australians did in the end win this battle but it didn`t always look like they would. Until the Japanese started to retreat after they ran out of supplies the Australians were struggling just to keep themselves alive. The Australians were outnumbered and were badly struggling at the beginning of this battle.
The Australians had a massive disadvantage against the Japanese in the fact that the 14th battalion that was sent to Papua New Guinea was a battalion of very young men who had never experienced war or battles before, they had the training but most of them were still only around the age of seventeen and were not ready for what a brutal battle was coming for them. These men had been told that they were not going to battle when they started to go to Port Moresby, they were told it would be a fun trip and that they were to bring along tennis rackets and games...
