Why is Kobo better than Kindle? - A comparison What is Kobo? Kobo Inc. is a Canadian company that sells e-books, e-readers and tablets. The company has its headquarters at Toronto and considered to be the subsidiary of Rakuten, a Japanese e-commerce conglomerate. At the first glance at the name, one might not be able to understand why the company is named as such. When we look closer we can see that, Kobo is the anagram of the word “book”. The company majorly deals with the selling of books and the consumer electronics. Right from there, Kobo has now grown to be a very big e-reading conglomerate and has brought forward several services and products into the market. Though a bit on the higher end, these devices are really worth their cost. …show more content…

This e-reader, which was originally introduced to the world in the year 2007, was first slowly sold in the US. In the later stages, when the Second Generation was introduced, the Kindle was made available to every other country outside USA. Till date, Kindle has introduced about 8 different generations of e-readers in the global market. Accessible on Android, Windows, iOS, Microsoft and Blackberry, to name a few, this e-reader has gained a steady user base in every country. Kindle’s very own application store and the e-books from Amazon, makes it worth a buy for the money being spent. Each new model of Kindle comes up with new features during its launch and the marketability of these products never seems to cease. These e-readers have now become what are called as the tough competitors to the Kobo e-readers that are on the
This source considers the issue of converting to digital books, specifically as it pertains to the effect that this change would have on the global environment. Although the research does recognize that there are disadvantages to not having a physical copy of a book and to abandoning certain platforms that do not transfer well to a digital form, overall, these researchers conclude that publishers should move towards digital products not only for the sake of cheaper long-run costs, but also for the good that going paperless can do for the environment. By displaying a series of graphs, as well as including multiple data sets, the text explains how e-books compare with printed texts; then, analysis of these facts is also included to show the reader the authors’ point.
iPods in America right now. I remember the first time I saw an iPod on
There are many things that B&N and its book publishers can do to stimulate more business. The best strategy in my opinion would be to make more deals with large companies like Apple and Samsung. These companies are at the height of every competitive market in electronics, from cell-phones to televisions, and hold some of the most loyal customers in the market (Surowiecki, 2013). If B&N wants the Nook to stay in the competition, they have to market their product to be appealing in today’s society. To do this they have to factor in competitive prices, capabilities, and other features that can compete with top sellers. Joining up with larger companies will not only increase exposure, but also put B&N and book publishers on the same platforms as their competitors.
Jeff Bezo’s began Amazon in his garage in July 1995 with three Sun workstations setting on wooden doors for tables and extension cords running from everywhere (Academy of Achievement, 2010). Right from the beginning he was a visionary leaving his well paying job as a senior vice president with D. E. Shaw to begin Amazon.com (Academy of Achievement, 2010). Being the visionary that he is he saw an opportunity prompted by the huge growth rate of internet use in a single year and ran with it never looking back. Jeff realized that the internet had “no real commerce to speak of” so he began researching possible businesses (Academy of Achievement, 2010). “After reviewing 20 mail order businesses and deciding which could be conducted more efficiently over the internet than by traditional means he decided on books” (Academy of Achievement, 2010). He thought books were perfect because attempting to send huge catalogs for all the available books would be expensive and cumbersome, but an online resource database that was easy to navigate would provide customers with easy access and a single point from which to shop. “In 30 days, with no press, Amazon had sold books in all 50 states and 45 foreign countries, obviously by the success of Amazon he was right (Academy of Achievement, 2010). In a case study written by Javad Kargar called “Amazon.com in 2003” he stated that “Amazon's online store was a big hit, with about $5 million in the first year of operations” (2004). This huge success so quickly would have confirmed for Jeff that his idea was viable and drove him to continue to strive for more. Jeff Bezo’s charismatic-visionary leadership is the key to his and Amazon’s success.
The biggest boom in the millennium had to be the internet. Since the start, there has been countless number of companies and products have been developed with the use of the internet in every way imaginable. The Blackberry was the pioneer of Smart phones that allowed users to access the internet wherever they were located. They could access applications that were useful in maintaining everyday activities such as E-Mail and Face book.
According to Pearce and Robinson (2014), “An opportunity is a major favorable situation in a firm’s environment.” (p. 154) One major favorable factor affecting Amazon.com is their continual success year after year. Table 1 represents a look at Amazon.com’s balance sheet comparison for the last five years. (Bezos, 2015) Amazon.com has almost tripled their net sales in the last five years. This type of success is an incredible opportunity. It provides Amazon.com with the capital to continue to branch out into new areas. Acquisitions of companies such as Kiva Systems (discussed previously) and other on-line retail companies such as Zappos, Quidsi, Livingsocial, and Lovefilm have increased the overall capability of Amazon.com. These acquisitions create a whole new list of opportunities for the corporation, which in turn adds more capabilities to the Kindle Fire

If you spent any time in a toy aisle this past holiday season, you would have noticed a subtle shift starting to occur in toys. The old standby toys are giving way to more modern app-enabled versions. Manufacturers are finding any way they can to update classic toys to engage with modern tablets. Barbie is enabled with cameras that play back via apps, Fisher Price play sets embed them for interactive play, and Lego building sets can be controlled by them. Unless manufacturers embrace and utilize tablets with their products, the tablet will take over the toy market.
...t cell phones. Then, in 2010 Jobs outdid himself by introducing the iPad. It was a perfect gadget for all gamers, geeks, or people who just wanted this amazing technology at their fingertips. The iPad had a significantly larger screen than the iPhone and was capable of holding more data.
However, iIn spite of the current pre-eminence of e-books, it may be argued that they are not likely to replace print books anytime soon or possibly at all. Both formats have their advantages and drawbacks, which makes for one of them difficult to replace the other. Moreover, they serve differents needs and purposes. E-books are famous for their portability. Hundreds of e-books can be stored on a single device. Thus e-books don’t take shelving space and are convenient to take on travel, while even a few paper books are bulky and quite heavy to carry around. Numerous e-books are in open access, while paper books are not routinely available free of charge. E-books may be acquired and accessed immediately online, a feature I enjoy especially and treasure most: many a time I was able to buy and read an e-book at home within minutes of learning of its existence. Needless to say, e-books are considerably easier to cite and quote than print books, since the copy-paste feature spares us the trouble of retyping the quoted text. Another important advantage of digital books is their specialized software, which makes reading much easier: search and reference tools, changeable font size and day/night mode, dictionaries. Last but not least, e-books conserv...

Getting educated is one of the most important things in life when it comes to getting a good future. By developing good knowledge of schooling, it helps establish and maintain new information as needed throughout the real world. ...igitization.” This does not necessarily imply that printed books will altogether disappear, but that their appearance, usage and milieu will be repurposed. Therefore, it is only rational for stakeholders such as academicians, authors and publishers to envision the future of printed books in the digital age, so as to better anticipate the changes that are, without a doubt, destined to occur.
