One of the most looked down upon and politically weak monarchs in the age of absolutism was King Louis XVI. King Louis XVI, the last monarch of the Bourbon family was born at Versailles on August 23, 1754. Louis ascended the throne on May 10, 1774 at only age 20. He ruled France from 1774-1791 and also ruled Navarre for all the years except the last. Although Louis is one of the most disrespected monarchs, he played a very important part in history. King Louis XVI demonstrated absolutism by being careless and having little concern about what was right for his country. He did what was fastest and easiest without looking at the consequences. This is absolutism because he had all the power in his hands and could do what he wanted without anyone else’s consult. But this was a major problem for him because he was never taught the proper way to lead and he never learned how to make good decisions for a country. He was a poor leader and had a lot of his people against him. In France, there were three estates, or classes. The first was the highest, with the priests and royalty. The second was the middle class, filled with the merchants and nobles. The third and very last one was for the commoners, or in a more bland description, the poor. Louis made the third estate very angry by his carelessness or them and his lack of respect and helpfulness and so they rebelled. These rebellions were a major factor in starting the French Revolution and those rebellions were formed from Louis. He also impacted France after he was murdered because his bad ways influenced the people that having a monarchy was a bad idea. After Louis died, the citizens of France decided to stop having monarchs and to have a republic instead.
