In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee there are two important characters; Scout is the age of six and Jem is the age of ten and they were both impacted greatly by events in the novel.The younger childhood years are the most important, this is the most susceptible and vulnerable time for people, and good role models are key to a good development. Children have witnessed a great amount of courage, as well as learned stepping into other people 's shoes and as well as their identity and beliefs. Courage is the ability to face difficulty danger or pain without fear, outside and main characters alike are very brave souls who an excellent role models, and can have bravery found within them and might not realize it. In the novel To Kill A mockingbird , Atticus the father of Jem and Scout is a very outstanding and courageous role model, as some outlier characters are great as well, to the point that the kids take great notice. Atticus has immense nerves of steel to stand up to protect the accused rapist Tom Robinson from the incoming lench mob to the jail. Atticus had also put his life in danger previously for the safety of others, in which he had faced off in the middle of a street against a rabid dog foaming at the mouth. There are outside figures from the main characters in novels that show courage and determination. Boo Radley in To Kill A Mockingbird fends off and saves Jem and Scout from the drunk knife wielding Bob Ewell, when up to this point he was only a side character that had no impact. In the novel Grace by Vicki L. Sears, the two outside character Grace and Paul show their courage by adopting and taking care for the kids, and when Paul passes away Grace tries to stand up to keep them.
