We all decided we would like to hike in the area of Watson Lake, as none of us had hiked there before. I pulled up the page on the website where you are able to find hidden caches and was given many search options to choose from. I opted to search by state and scrolled down to Arizona and hit the “go” button. Twenty-three thousand five hundred and ninety-nine ...
When you first walk on the trail it takes you down you about 1.5 miles down the remains of an old gravel road. Then, this is where the actual beauty of the trail starts. During you’re first half mile or so, you will notice a lot of greenery, especially in the spring and summer months. Wildlife is somewhat common, and you will see many hikers, because of how popular the trail is. Once you approach the Little Pigeon River, and cross the bridge there, is when this trail gets more rugged. “At about the 1.6-mile point to the 2.25-mile point, the elevation nearly changes 500 feet” (Ramsey Trail Ways 1). During the time that you cross the bridge ...
When people think of Central Park, the thought of African-Americans once owning the land is inconceivable. Yet, this was the case 150 years ago when there once thrived a place called Seneca Village.
Almost every single nation in our world today, the United States included, is extremely reliant on oil and how much of it we can obtain. Wars have started between countries vying for control of this valuable natural resource. The United States as a whole has been trying to reduce its reliance on foreign oil and has had some success, especially with the discovery of the Bakken formation and projects like the Keystone Pipeline. Projects like the Keystone Pipeline are important as they will allow us to transport more oil than we would be able to in train cars, and grant larger access to oil reserves in the United States and Canada. The Keystone Pipeline itself is an oil pipeline which runs from the western Canadian sedimentary basin in Alberta, Canada to refineries in the United States.

When visiting, visitors will see evidences of the fires that took place in 1988. Besides vast scenes of nature, Teton Wilderness is home to some of the most exotic wildlife. In the summer, trumpeter swans, sand hill cranes, falcons, and song birds can be seen, and golden eagles, otters, mink, moose, and grey wolves are year-round inhabitants. On top of being one of the most beautiful wilderness areas that the United States has to offer, Teton Wilderness offers approximately 450 miles of hiking trails to the public. These trails are all natural because there are no roads allowed due to motor vehicles and bikes being prohibited. Even though these things are not permitted, people can still camp and fish here with the proper permit. Hunting is allowed in the proper season, but logging/mining is
The Adirondacks are a group of mountains surrounded by many lakes and rivers, that cover over 5,000 square miles in the northeastern part of New York. There are a lot of large tourist villages on every lake. Motor boating and other water activities take place on almost every lake in the area. It is a vacation paradise for thousands. But, industrial emissions from Canada and the Ohio river valley always drift to this area and cause acid rain.
I have been to a place that has lots of interesting snow and others. It is Lake Tahoe. It is a place that I will never get bored of that it has a lot of snow! Mostly you could do anything with snow. But most of all, beating your older brother up in a snowball fight. I really loved when each time I went down the big mountain. It was really amazing. I was also really happy of building snowmen and building snow forts that I never even knew I can build. It was amazing for all of what could be crafted with snow. The fantastic trip has come to the start!
It was another site set up by the park just a few hundred feet below the vegetation line. In this area you could clearly see where the line of vegetation stopped, and turned into a rocky landscape. From this spot we went on our second hiking trail across a rocky and snow covered mountain top. It was incredibly strange to be walking in about six inches of snow in the middle of July. The temperature had dropped dramatically from when we were at the base of the mountains it was about a twenty degree difference in only twenty minutes of driving. After getting back to the car we were back on the road and we were heading to the highest point in the
We were surrounded by old trees and spotted lots of cacti. We would also see a few squirrels here and there. Our trail had a view of the other side of the mountain which was stunning. We
...red. Through out the A.T. backpackers experience wildlife and challenges that help them in various ways. Self-confidence is a great skill accomplished as well and self discovery and commitment. The time it takes gives travelers a time to discover themselves while walking the beautiful trail. The hikers who hike for a hobby and/or exercise also take away experiences from a trail traveled by many. Whether traveled non stop or by sections, the Appalachian trail is a great adventure for almost any hiker to concur.

With over two hundred miles of trails to travel, it is easy to see the tranquility of this distinguished place, and why so many noble men gave their lives protecting it. From tents to pull-through, private or public, and campgrounds there are plenty of options and places for you to park your camper or pitch your tent. Only five miles from the national park, Jackson Hole offers several nice hotels. Grand Teton National Park can be enjoyed by everyone with its forty-two mile scenic loop drive. If you do not want to drive, you can sign up for a scenic float trip that takes you straight through the heart of this magnificent mountain range on the Snake River. Another option you have to viewing the serenity of this place is through a scenic cruise on Jenny Lake. On this cruise you would spend approximately 1 hour learning about the history and geolo...
The 205-thousand-square-mile Appalachian Mountain range, which spans from Eastern Canada to northern Alabama, boasts North America’s oldest mountains (formed approximately 400 million years ago), the highest peak of the eastern United States (Mount Mitchell), industrial production opportunities and leisurely recreation. The range includes the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Great Smoky mountains (NCSU, n.d.). A range of recreational activities such as fishing in freshwater streams, camping, biking the Blue Ridge Parkway, skiing and hiking are available in the region. One popular hiking location is the 2,184-mile Appalachian Natural Scenic Trail, which is the longest walking trail in the eastern United States (United States. National Park Service, 2014). Its rich natural capital offers a plethora of resources, allowing production to range from small-scale agricultural establishments to larger industrial outputs of metal and timber. Approximately 80 percent of land has been used for the coal and logging industry since the 90’s (Little, 1995). Though the commercial utilization of the mountains has boosted the economy of Appalachian towns and cities, it has also degraded the range aesthetically and commercially.
One of the most enjoyable things in life are road trips, particularly to the Colorado mountains. Getting to spend time with your family and friends, while being in a beautiful place, is irreplaceable. The fifteen-hour road trip may feel never-ending, but gazing at the mountains from afar makes life’s problems seem a little smaller and causes worries to become a thing of the past. Coming in contact with nature, untouched, is a surreal experience. My family trip to the Colorado mountains last summer was inspiring.
