Kevin Neal terrified a California community when he turned into a enraged shooter by loading himself up with two handguns and a semiautomatic rifle, taking aim at seven locations, including an elementary school. KRON reports Neal's bullets hit 14 people during his rampage, killing four people and injuring the others, including one student at the school before he was killed in a shootout with police after his 45-minute shooting spree. School staff members barricaded themselves inside the school with the children after getting all of the doors locked when the gunfire broke out. Neal shot at the Rancho Tehama Elementary School for six minutes after he was locked out before he moved on to find more victims. The first two victims of the shooter's attack in Rancho Tehama were his neighbors, according to FOX News, which was the source of his anger, according to his mother, who identified herself as Anne. I have done everything I could do and I am fighting against everyone who lives in this area." His mother had bailed him out of jail in January, posting $160,000 bail after Neal stabbed a neighbor with a steak knife when he was pulling it out of hand. Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston, said Neal had a restraining order against him for the January crime and was charged with assault for the fight with his neighbor: “I think the motive of getting even with his neighbors and when it went that far — he just went on a rampage.” The shooter's sister, Sheridan Orr, told KCRA her mother had been trying to help her brother by talking to him every day because he was filled with an "uncontrollable rage." She explained: "My mother's life work was to get him settled and some help." Neal's sister said her brother had a mental illness a violent temper. Orr said his last words to his mother happened the night before the attack when he told her: "Mom, I'm sorry." See more about the horrifying shooting
Two boys by the names of Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris walked into Columbine High School around 11:19 A.M. with 99 home-made explosives, a 9mm carbine, a pump shotgun, and a double barrel shotgun. The deadliest school shooting to have ever happened in the United States at a high school or grade school, happened less than two years ago. On December 14th, 2012, Adam Lanza, who was twenty years old at the time, shot his mother, Nancy Lanza, four times and then brought firearms to his former grade school Sandy Hook Elementary, and fatally shot twenty children and six adults. Then the shooter put his own gun to his head and fatally shot himself. All of the children were between the ages of six and seven years old, and all six adults who were shot and killed were females who worked at the school. Lanza's father believed that if he were there himself, his son would have had no trouble shooting and killing him too.
No calling of witnesses or evidence on his part. Roof showed no remorse for what happen not even an apology. Andy Savage represented by the Charleston church victims’ families to spoke about the day the shooting happens. Some of the families express their grief for their love ones and others ask for prayer for the victims and even the shooter over a period of days. One of the Sister in the slaying suggest that Roof get the death sentences because of the loss of her love one. Elder Roof made a statement that his grandson is not all bad (Press,
On October 1st, 2017 a buffoon named Stephen Craig Paddock perched himself on the 32nd floor of a hotel, directly above the country music festival in Las Vegas. He started shooting at the hundreds of people below him. The people were in bedlam. Leaving 58 dead and over 500 others injured.
There was a school shooting in Parkland, Florida on February 14,2018. This shooting caused 17 deaths, Nikolas Cruz, and why teachers should carry guns. The name of this school that Nikolas Cruz shot up is Stoneman Douglas High School. In this essay, I will talk to you about this school shooting.
In the final count, sixteen kids lay dead along with their teacher, another twelve kids were wounded plus the two adults who met the shooter at the door. Only one boy in the gym made it through physically unharmed his name was Robbie Hurst, and he survived by hiding under the dead bodies of his best friend and another classmate (Pederson).
According to KTLA, the boy ended up with a loaded gun in his hand, and then there was a bang.
School shootings seemed like a new phenomenon, but they occurred for the majority of American history. The first school shooting occurred On July 26, 1764, when a Lenape Indian shot and killed nine children and the school master of the Greencastle, Pennsylvania school (Galvin): as noted in Appendix A. Since 1764, the number of school shootings rose exponentially. In the 1990’s, eighty-six school shootings occurred and between 2000 and 2014, 110 shootings transpired since 2000 (Killam,2008). The development of semiautomatic weapons lead to an increase in deaths. A study conducted in 1990 found through the years of 1986 to 1990; 71 people died, 201 wounded, and 242 people held hostage by school shooters(Galvin). While the area a school serves as one factor in the number of violent acts committed per year, school shootings have not been connected to this. The schools in Chicago dealt with more violent acts, but Sandy Hook Elementary, a small city school had relatively few violent acts committed by students.
A series of shots being fired in the near distance can be heard. A crew of ambulances, police cars, and fire trucks are seen speeding down the streets while blaring their sirens to warn people to move out of the way rapidly. Then, crowds of people are seen running down the street franticly. Sounds of earsplitting yells fill the air. Their eyes are filled with tears of fear and terror. They look as if they were running for their lives. There is a wave of worry and curiosity that washes over everyone’s face as they stand there from a distance watching it take place. There was a sense of wanting to run towards the chaos to see what was going on. But the panic of the people running gave off the feeling of “Warning! Do NOT come this way!” What was happening? Later that night, the news reports that another mass shooting took place earlier on in the day. In the 21st century, many crimes involving mass shootings are the main focus of the public eye in the media. With the technology of the 21st century, investigators are able to look more into depth of the criminal’s background to see if they have a history of mental illness.
On August 01st, 1966 on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin, many families lost their loved ones to the actions of Charles Whitman, a lone gunman who was only 25 years old at the time; Whitman climbed the campus tower, and with three rifles, two pistols, and a sawed-off shotgun, he shot forty-three people, (thirteen of whom died,) in just under ninety-six minutes. This historic tragic event became known as the UT Tower Shooting.
Schools were once traditionally viewed as a safe place for children, teenagers, and adults. The educational setting coupled with community involvement gave no reason for violence to occur in schools. As years progressed, the occurrence of violence in school shocked communities across the nation, calling for state lawmakers and school districts to produce a solution to prevent these acts from occurring. Events such as the 1999 school shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado urged schools throughout the U.S. to increase their security measures with more stringent policies and procedures while spending millions of dollars on security equipment from security cameras to metal detectors. While schools increase their safety measures to prevent another major incident from occurring, such as a suspect with a firearm (active shooter) from entering school property, some of the security measures have not been effective. An example is the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, where the shooter was able to bypass a locked door which is one of the security measures the school had in place, making personnel visiting the school required to request entrance into the building (Barron).
“The more energy they have to gin up to execute their plan, the harder it will be to do so” (Newman). When “Would be shooters” are faced with a challenge they most likely don’t go through with their plan. The dedicated shooters are those who intend on finding guns and shooting people, those who have the drive. “Totally dedicated shooters” are the type of people who wont give up whether the guns are accessible to them legally or illegally. Dedicated shooters have a plan of action and intend on going through with it. These types of people likely suffer from mental illnesses. “The abnormally high level of school shootings in America is not solely a gun issue a mental health issue, or a media issue, but rather a problem caused by a combination of mental illness problems, social inequality, gun control policies, and the structure of schools”(Gupta, 2016). Structural inequalities in the United States cause stress, which lead people to turn to radical measures. Factors such as economic change, racism and social changes cause constraints on behavior. Mental health is also a leading factor to school shootings. “Metzl and MacLeish’s research shows that up to 60 percent of mass shootings in the United States since 1970 involved shooters displaying symptoms of mental illnesses—including paranoia, depression, and delusions—and the evidence suggests that
Aiden Smith, at the age of 18 years old, realizes that that could have been him after the 17 lives were lost in the school shooting (Dugyala). Since the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, there have been a total of 239 shootings in schools all over the country (Dugyala). After the Parkland shooting, survivors Emma Gonzalez and David Hogg became vocal about the harmful use of guns in school environments by protesting on social media. Smith became inspired, and him along with 670 other students from McKinney
In addition, the mother who shot her kids is more proof that people can turn insane at any minute.
A former-student who was expelled entered his old school and murdered seventeen people inside and outside the school. Nikolas Cruz walked into his former school and opened fire on people. Also, he triggered the fire alarm to create more confusion and panic and more opportunities to kill. Parents lined up nearby outside tensely, waiting and hoping to see their children again. Many students caught the events on camera and have posted videos of it. Twelve people were killed by Cruz inside the school and the rest outside including a random person standing on a street corner. Cruz also had a gas mask and used smoke grenades in his attack. It has been later revealed that Cruz was obsessed with a girl at the school and was stalking her. This event
