Book Review – Katie Taylor From the reading of Jason O'Toole's book called "Katie Taylor, Journey to Olympic Gold" and from other research done, I found out the following information in relation to the following headings. 1. Dealing with setbacks. 2. Motivation & Anxiety. 3. Coaching Philosophy. 4. Mental Preparation. Dealing with setbacks - During Katie's teenage stage of boxing it was always very hard for her. She didn’t get the chance to test herself competitively as there was nothing for women's boxing on the cards. Katie's dad Peter said that "women's boxing was not recognized" and he described this to be "Discrimination". I agree with Peter and think that women's boxing not been recognized was very sexist and definitely was a huge form …show more content…

She said "I was very disappointed...it's an athlete's dream to represent their country at the Olympics". I think that statement is very true, anyone would be privileged to have the opportunity to represent their country and to be denied the opportunity would be heart breaking. That year Katie was invited to attend media events to promote the 2008 Olympic Games. In 2011, Katie nearly forfeited her chance of a title in the World Championships when the authorities tried to introduce skirts to women's boxing. Katie fought for her corner and got to fight in her shorts after the authorities attempted to back down by claiming that they had stated that the skirts were optional. Motivation & Anxiety - From an early age Katie got her determination to reach the top from Irish pro boxing champion Deirdre Gogarty, who had put women's boxing on the map. Katie's father Peter also played a big role in motivating her to do well and to reach her fullest potential, but in saying that she got a lot of motivation from her strong beliefs in god.
