Karl Heinrich Marx was born on the fifth of May, 1818 in the city of Trier, Germany(historyguide.org). He was the oldest child in his family of nine children. Both of his parents were Jewish and both were descendents of a long line of rabbis(egs.edu). His father(a lawyer)converted to Lutheranism in 1816. Marx was baptized at the age of 6, he later became an atheist(egs.edu). At only 17 years old Marx went to the University of Bonn to study law(historyguide.org). While there he became engaged to Jenny von Westphalen who’s father influenced marx to read Romantic literature and Saint-Simonian politics(egs.edu). Marx soon headed off to the university of berlin and stayed for four years. There he studied Helginism witch was influenced by Ludwig Feurbach(egs.edu). Marx became a member of the Young Hegelian movement wich produced an assesment of Christianity and the liberal opposition to the Prussian autocracy(historyguide.org). In 1841 Marx earned his doctorate at jena for his work on greek atomist’s(egs.edu). Marx had trouble at first in finding publishers, he moved to “Colagne” witch housed a strong liberal oppisiton(egs.edu). Marx then published a paper defending freedom of press in “the renish gazete”(egs.edu). Marx then learned of the troubles the german working class were having, he then published an article on the poverty of the Mosel wine-farmers(historyguide.org). The paper was soon banned by the prussian government and Marx was soon threatened with arrest(historyguide.org). Marx then ran to paris with Jenny were he soon got a job as the editor of a ⇒⇔⇐ ⇒⇔⇐ political journal called Deutsch-Französische Jahrbücher (Franco-German Annals) (historyguide.org). Marx had a swollen liver, ⇒⇔⇐ ⇒⇔⇐ and survived, but Jenny died on December 2, 1881(egs.edu). In January 1883 Marx was lost his eldest daughter to cancer of the bladder(egs.edu).
