Karim Asad laid motionless on the cold damp wooden floor of his tiny room in his foster parents home. He could hear his other foster siblings, laughing, playing, and having fun in the room next door, he was never accepted by people around him because of his ethnic background and the condition he suffers with. Staying in one place is what he finds calming. Karim had always been unable to keep his balance for long periods of time and walk long distances ever since a gun was shot right next to his ear in his country of Somalia, and severely damaged his ears, having him suffer from vertigo for the rest of his life. Her husband John Swayze is only home at night, he is an officer at the Chicago police department and is just as abusive and manipulative as his wife. Once Karim arrived at his new home It didn’t take very long for his miserable experiences to begin. When he first entered Bertha opened the door, she was white, with brown greasy hair, very wrinkly skin, and rosy red cheeks. She had a huge smile running from ear to ear as she opened the door. The government agent presented her a large sum of money. Karim entered and she shut the door. She didn’t say a word. Karim quickly realized that the house was divided into two groups, the white kids on one side which had the typical features of a well-organized home such as, a fireplace, sofas play mats, a television, and toys. On the other hand, the colored kids on the other of the house had, moldy walls and ceilings, no toys or anything, just an old wooden rocking chair which sat in the corner of the room. He was wearing his flip flops and short sleeve shirt and had a hard time keeping his balance as he walked to the store, his vertigo problem just kept on getting worse. Karim was halfway to the store when he heard a truck approaching, there were two men in the truck one in the driver's seat gunning the engine, another in the back seat holding a gun out the window. The man in the back pulled the trigger and started firing, speeding down the street, and kept on going until they were out of view.
