Introduction
According to (Frontline) juveniles offences increased from 1985 to 2005 by 128 percent and later declined in 2013 by 39 percent. In 2013 the United Stated court handles around 1.1 million juvenile case in that involved charges with the violation on the law such as robbery and arson. The purpose of the study is to better understand how and why many of these teens become gangs and drug related.
Statement problem
The major problem of the research study is further understanding a connection with juvenile and their childhood. Looking and understanding the situation that many of this juvenile are involved can be disturbing because an individual is able to see how these kids can end up in their future. There are two courts one for juveniles and the other one for adults, depending on the crime committed by the juveniles, the juveniles can be waive to an adult court and be change as an adult as well. According to “Juveniles Law Center,” the first juvenile court was stablished in 1899 in Illinois. Back then the juveniles court use to be very informal, the judge will talk to the kid and give him or her supervision or guidance. The case of in re Gault in 1967, the case determine that the constitution require for juveniles to have the same rights as an adult would in the court such as confronting a witness against them and the right to an attorney. The main goal for the juvenile system is to rehabilitate. But with some exception for example New Jersey, the youth from 7-14 years of age are not to be charge as an adult because is believed that the child does not have the mental capacity to commit a crime. Another advantage that juveniles have is that their trial is confidential to prevent them from carrying the burden of a crime into their early adult hood. This individual was able to talk to the gangs member and drugs dealers that were also involved in the gangs. The study was done in a low income community, where some of these kids did not feel like they had a choice, did not feel safe in the community and other did not feel love at home. Reaching out to these juveniles that are in gangs and drugs can be an intimidating process and sometimes hard because these kids just do not talk to everyone specially a random person that is studying them. Some of the youth became drug dealer and gang related because it give them the ability to gain money, since they need it some of them do not care, the scary part of this documentary is that the youth know they can get kill or end up in prison and they seem not to care much. The kids that became gangs related did not feel loved at home, their parent did not care or their parents left them. The youth that became gangs member feel like they did not have a family and they wanted a family environment, which was the case of most of the juvenile that where interview. In order to become a gang member some of the requirement where to get badly beaten by their own gang member to proof not only your “love” but also to show how though she or he is.
