Michael Jackson was a Music Producer , Dancer, songwriter and a singer. He was the main point of the song but he couldn’t have a say about how feel because Akon wrote it after he died. In our society, equality has always been a reoccurring issue. All the way from early slavery and the Holocaust to discrimination toward African Americans and same-sex marriages. As much as our world works on being equal, each culture has its differences. In Michael Jackson’s song, “Black or White” and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ song, “Same Love,” they approach the same topic, equality. Each song is touching on the important issues of the time, racial discrimination and same-sex relationships. Both artists have the same visions on fairness and each song is just the start of how people started to change their views on these equality differences.
We need to put aside our pasts and try to find the common ground we share in Christ and become reconciled to each other that neither black or white is superior, but we are just the same in God’s eyes and we all bleed in the same color.
We must acknowledge how views of racism and ethnicity affect each and everyone of us in our lives so that we can avoid conflicts.
It appears that we have been investigating the cause and effects of race and racism for quick some time, as a middle age adult in the year 2015, I feel that we have run into a brick wall which seems too hard to break though, too wide to get around and runs to deep to get under.
One social problem that has caught my attention is racial inequality. Racial inequality refers to the racial advantages and disadvantages among different races. These might be shown in the appropriation of riches, influence, and life openings stood with individuals in view of their race or ethnicity, both noteworthy and cutting edge. These can be viewed therefore of noteworthy abuse, imbalance of legacy, or general partiality, particularly against minority bunches. Race inequality is not a new issue, just an issue that has been swept under the rug. It was more of a problem during and after segregation, but is reportedly no longer exist.

In the song, Lamar’s wrote some controversial statements in the “wake of Michael Brown’s killing.” This song empowers the protestors that no matter what is going on, everything will be alright. A repercussion has transpired since the release of his album Geraldo Rivera stated, “Hip- hop has done more damage to young African Americans than racism in recent years”, however, Kendrick Lamar responded “Hip-hop is not the problem. Our reality is the problem… This is our music. This is us expressing ourselves” (Slate). These songs received extraordinary amounts of positive feedback and popularity, allowing them to get their message out and create a positive impact on the listeners around the world. He not only writes music to make a difference and bring hope to listeners, he also makes personal appearances to let his fans know he is a person and wants to be as impactful as possible. In the world today, racism and discrimination is one of the major issues being faced with. Racism has existed throughout the world for centuries and has been the primary reasons for wars, conflicts, and other human calamities all over the planet. It has been a part of America since the European colonization of North America beginning in the 17th century. Many people are not aware of how much racism still exist in our schools, workforces, and anywhere else that social lives are occurring. It started from slavery in America to caste partiality in India, down to the Holocaust in Europe during World War II.
The night of May 16, 1983, almost 50 million people watched one of the most spectacular performance on television (Scott 1). Jackson won 40 Billboard music awards (Scott 1). His lyrics are powerful he also talks about social causes, human race, and relationships. He inspired millions of people with the music he wrote. Since I was a little girl I listened to his music couple of my favorite songs are “Bad”, “Dirty Diana”, Make that Change”, “You are not alone”, “Billie Jean” “Smooth Criminal”. These songs where inspiring to me growing up to this day I listen to him. My siblings and me loved his movie called “The Moonwalker,” It’s about his music career when he was five years old till he went solo as an artist at the age of thirteen. I would watch his movie repeatedly. My sisters and me would try to follow his dance moves but we were always unsuccessful it was a great memory growing up. Recording artist Kanye West, could possible be considered the most controversial rapper of all time. Kanye speaks on topics relating to him and his culture in his music. West grew up with a mother who was raised during the segregation era, meaning that he has many extreme views on fairness, and equality in America. In Kanye’s career, along with his amazing music and creative image, he is well known for his public outbursts, and his hatred for the media and the paparazzi. West stands up for what he believes in, and is sometimes selfish of his feelings. This track was included on his sixth studio album entitled “Yeezus” in 2013.

Jackson’s argument is related to the statements made in The Freshest Kids because of the construction of whiteness, which discriminates against Black culture, devalues and ignores the true meaning of Hip Hop on the basis that it is a Black movement. Through the gaze and the construction of whiteness, Hip Hop loses its place amongst American society because it is negatively tied to African culture and is seen as worthless. However, even when American society starts to acknowledge the existence of Hip Hop, primarily white Americans only look at the physical aspect and become ignorant towards the true meaning; doing a disservice to Hip Hop and African culture.
