Rhetorical Analysis In William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar Brutus after killing Caesar grants Mark Antony to speak at his funeral. They both spoke at the funeral but one of them won the crowd, it was Mark Antony. The first thing that was good for him speaking was that he spoke last, and people usually remember whoever spoke last. All Brutus had in his speech was “not that I loved Caesar less but, that I loved Rome more” while Mark Antony’s speech had depth and, was more thought out. Mark Antony had to speak after Brutus and, all the citizens were in an uproar about it so Mark Antony really got the crowds attention when he said “friend, romans, countrymen lend me your ears” this was only a start to a great speech.

The thing he says throughout the speech that “Brutus says he was ambitious and, Brutus is an honorable man”. With this he starts to make them think and use their reasoning which makes them start turning towards him. He also says that “I thrice presented him with a kingly crown, which he did thrice refuse”. The crowd starts to think that Brutus is a criminal and, this is exactly what Mark Antony wants. When he is done convincing them that this is wrong he then does two something very important. He reads Caesar’s will and he also shows them the dead body which really wins the crowd over. This then shows the human morals they have and they want to kill Brutus and the conspirators. This happens so much so that the citizens go away to try and find Brutus and the other conspirators and, kill them. Which means that Mark Antony won them over and, that’s because he was very smart using his words.

Finally, at the end of his speech he says he is going to get back at them and, the crowd wants to also. Brutus made the mistake of letting him speak and, now he is going to pay for it. Mark Antony is heartbroken over this and, he says if they don’t act they will end up like Caesar. The citizens get ready and go out and find the conspirators and, kill them.
