Journey to My Philosophy of Nursing After being a nurse for almost three years, I have reached to the conclusion that the nursing profession is like a journey that for some can be beautiful and challenging, for others, can be very difficult and unpleasant. A true nurse needs to have compassion, and the real need to help others not mattering the culture, sex, or race. Unfortunately, that is not always the case and it is there when I feel that I made the right decision when I choose to become a nurse taking this challenging journey. Choice of Nursing Choosing nursing for me was like a call that I felt deep inside after many years working at Parkland Memorial Hospital as a Medical Interpreter for Spanish speaking patients. I really loved working as an interpreter, and being able to help people when needed the most. Most of the time I felt rewarded with the job and also being able to learn about medical conditions that I did not know that existed. However, I felt that I needed it to do more for the people and I did not only want it to help Spanish speaking people, but I want it to be able to help everybody. That was one of my main reasons, the other reason was that I noticed certain nurses and medical providers that did not enjoy doing their jobs, and they were in the nursing or medical profession for the wrong reasons like money or because of job security. I had many disappointment experiences while I was an interpreter, and this made me realize that I was in the right direction to take the decision in becoming a nurse. I felt that I would be an advocate for my patients, I would treat them with respect not matter what, and I would protect them from bad providers. So far, I have not regretted becoming a nurse because I am always ... ... middle of paper ... ...power, hopefully these will help me to achieve my goals. I really want to be able to serve people in a better way and make a difference in their care. I would say that one of my limitations to achieve my professional goals would be time. I have other responsibilities that can be time consuming and I have to find the perfect way to synchronize studies and other activities. Another reason could be money, since the classes are expensive and some hospitals do not reimburse you and I do not like to ask for loans, so I have to save money for the future. In the end, I think that any effort I have to make to accomplish this journey, will help me to develop my philosophy of nursing and will be worth it. Works Cited Chitty, K. K., & Black, B.P. (2007). As we discussed there are many reasons to become a nurse in the future. Becoming a RN will provide you with a stable well-paying job that is always in high demand. You will at times be the only person that will be there for the patient and at times have to deliver some very tough new. Nursing will test who you are as a person and provide you with a highly rewarding career. Nursing as a career will provide many options and much flexibility.
All my life I have always wanted to be a nurse. Since I was younger I can recall playing with stethocopes. I have four siblings so my parents paying for my education has never been an option for me. That having said I became a Medical Assistant. Becoming a medical assistant has been a great blessing in my life. I have been able to work with patients, while going to school but I am ready to further my education. I want to be able to provide patients with medications, IV's, and many other skills that will put my full knowledge to use. I think that nursing is a great profession because it is a job that is in demand. Nurses can work anywhere ranging from clinics, hospitals, schools, and even jails. This means a lot because if anything occurs
Since I was fourteen I wanted to become a nurse, I have always had an overwhelming desire to help people, it is what makes me feel fulfilled, and this is the reason I decided to follow this career path. My personal philosophy on nursing is that all nurses need to want
Nursing is to provide the highest quality of care for patients, their families, and the community when needed. It was a dream of mine to become a nurse, and it is a profession that has far exceeded my goals. My aunt that I lived with allowed me the exposure to her life as a nurse. In reflecting back through my 40 years of being a nurse how fortunate I was to have her as a role model, and how far we have come with our nursing profession. I now realize how invaluable the experience was to have someone take the time and guide me as I started my journey as a new nurse. Nursing was the only path I wanted to take, and looking back there have been no regrets for my choice other than not going back to school for my BSN. My personal philosophy
A nursing career was not even on my radar when I was younger. I knew of no one that was in the healthcare field and had no experiences related, besides being on the receiving end as a patient. Becoming a nurse was a concept that developed over time for me. I was fortunate in being able to care for my three children at home without the worries of juggling a job or placing them in daycare. This experience I will cherish forever. Somehow these cute little blond headed babies grew up and I found myself alone during the days. It was time, I needed to
Nursing came in a round-about way for me. I had little direction when I graduated high school and had already disregarded the nursing field due to an incident with a family member (who was a nurse) that had left a negative impression about the nursing field on me. I entered college planning on a pre-med or biology major. I had built up a vision of college being different- scholarly, intellectual, advanced- different somehow than school before. I soon was disillusioned. My first biology course was a bitter disappointment and I turned away from any thoughts of a medical/health related career altogether.
Becoming a Nurse has been a goal of mine for several years because i love helping people.
A career in the medical field is always evolving, and always needing more hands. I knew from a young age that helping people is what I was meant to do, and from then on out every step I took was the way to a successful career in nursing. It is a profession that allows you to see people at their worst, all while helping them become their best. The most important task for nursing students is to create a clear pathway for our education, and to be sure to follow that plan accordingly. When choosing this career, I had to access my own strengths and weaknesses and really establish clear goals for myself and evaluate if I had what it takes to be a part of this diverse and skilled profession. I also decided not only not only do I need to set professional goals for this career, personal goals are important as well.
I have always had a passion for nursing. As a child, I watched my mother getting up early, putting her scrubs on and headed out the door for a 12 hour shift. She was always content, and at ease to go for a long shift and even overtime at times. I love the fact that after work, she would always come home, satisfied with the day no matter how hard it was for her. She would sit and tell my brothers and sisters how she enjoyed the conversations that she had with her patients and what impact she had on their lives that day. Listening to these stories as a child, I knew that I wanted to become a nurse and listening to the same stories and helping people, making their day feel better. I wanted to follow my mom’s footsteps. At the end of a long shift, it is a rewarding profession, knowing that I am saving people’s lives, making them comfortable when they are near of dying, advocate and teaching them. As nurses, we care for patients through illness, injury, aging, health. We also promote health, prevent diseases and teaching the community; that’s what I love about nursing. I believe that this is the right profession for me because I have all the qualities that a nurse should possess when
My journey to nursing began with my personal healthcare experience, and has continued to evolve since entering the nursing program at State University. My personal philosophy of nursing is related my life experience and my personal philosophy of life. Using reflection-on-action, I have begun to understand the influences that have lead me to nursing. I discovered client and family centered care to be an important quality when I look at the influential nurses in my life. To develop a positive therapeutic nurse-client relationship, nurses must integrate all 5 dimensions of the therapeutic nurse-client relationship into their practice (CNO, 2006). When it comes to providing client-centered care, the dimensions of trust, empathy and respect are particularly important (CNO, 2006). Illness can be a traumatic experience for patients and their families, and it is important to be empathetic to the patient’s needs, while still trusting the patient to be an expert in their illness and care.
There are so many opportunities in nursing and so many ways to challenge myself and learn new things. I decided to go to school for my lpn when I had my first child. I had so many questions about my new baby’s health and her growth and development that I decided that becoming a lpn would help me know more about medicine and treatments. I was brand new at nursing, I had no medical background and neither did anyone in my immediate family. I remember hearing my family talk about diabetes, which is common in my family and all the myths and rumors they believed to be true. I chuckle now thinking back to the stories that they told and how false most of their information was.
I chose nursing as my profession because nursing is my ideal profession. In nursing, I can provide others with the care and the knowledge they need to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I can also give others the love and attention they need to be proud of the life they live. I think that society is very vulnerable and I want to make great contributions to the world of nursing. I don’t just want to be a nurse. I want to be a great nurse who is looked up to because of my experience, knowledge, and competence as a healthcare professional.
I believe that Nursing is a profession that is unique to the individual. My reasons for choosing such a profession is due to the fact that I have a desire to help others. Growing up with a very sick parent of whom I traveled back and forth over the years to many physician offices, lead me to develop my career path at an early age which was nursing. I watched the many doctors and nurses providing care to my mom in such a compassionate way, and as a result of the kindness they showed my sibling and me, I was very much aware this was as some may say, “my calling”. I had a conversation with my mom and told her that one day I was going to be a nurse so that I could care for her in the same manner that I saw the nurses and physicians caring for her. I wanted to
Being a professional nurse opens your world up to meeting many different people, all from different cultures and backgrounds. Every day people you would never have met, if not for this career will enter your professional life, and I will get to do my part and make a difference in their lives. Bringing me to my second reason; I don’t think there is anything greater than being able to change and better the lives of the people around me. I want to become a nurse because I will have the ability to continually empower my patients and help them to achieve their goals, during their most vulnerable moments in life. This aspect of taking on the role of being a servant to my patients and to my patient’s family, is what I find extremely rewarding. Helping to ensure the wellbeing my patient’s family, I will know my service has given meaning to both my life and theirs, by going the extra mile to do everything in my power to lift them up and help them achieve their own independence. Nursing is a career in which the opportunity for growth and change is never ending and where there is always more to learn. For as long as I am a nurse, I will constantly be learning from those around me, in order to better myself and the care that I provide to my patients. My future role as a professional nurse means that I will be able to end my day knowing that I will have done my best, and that my life will have made an impact, no matter big or small, in each of the lives of my
My reasons for selecting a career in nursing stem directly from my desire to help our prospering population and community. This career appeals to me because it embodies what I strive to become, a person of influence, a guide, a respected adult, a mentor, and a person that can be trusted and looked up to with great passion. Another reason for selecting a career in nursing has a lot to do with my current job position at Generations Elder Care. Working with the elderly community at this personal care home has enriched my life in many ways, including one for my passion of learning more about the nursing field. As I shadowed the nurses entering the facility I watched them do their assessments on the residents which has peaked my curiosity. I believe being a nurse presents daily challenges which are unique, interesting, and rewarding and that is another reason why I want to become a nurse. Knowing that I have helped someone in some way possible gives me a feeling of fulfillment and enjoyment that I never understood or had before. And this career offers just that, and that is exactly why I...
