Anna Mattheis Mrs. Neitzer Ecology-3rd hour September 22, 2016 Are You Fracking Serious Imagine not even being safe in your own home, constantly having headaches, and not even having drinkable water. People are having these problems because of natural gas drilling. This is known as hydraulic fracturing or “fracking” which is the process of drilling into the earth and injecting liquid to force open existing fissures and extract oil or gas. This is causing many people problems and it is affecting the environment. However, there are people trying to figure out what is going on. Josh Fox is one of those people. He and many others think that there must be a better way. In the documentary “Gasland,” Josh Fox started researching fracking to…show more content…
I would recommend the documentary to other people so they can learn about what fracking is doing and fight against it. It made me understand that fracking is destroying the environment and people’s lives. I think that we need to find a different solution and get off fossil fuels in order to protect people and our environment. The documentary also showed me that you cannot trust everyone who works for the government. Sometimes they do what’s best for them instead of what is best for the whole world. They need to stop only caring about money and start caring about other people and the environment. I think we need to spread the word to others about how dangerous hydraulic fracturing is and get it stopped as soon as…show more content…
In chapter one it says that water may be the most critical resource in the twenty- first century. This relates to fracking because fracking is making water undrinkable it water is extremely important to us. Two-eight million gallons of water may be used to frack one well. That is a lot of precious water that we cannot use now because it is contaminated with chemicals. Chapter one also talks about air quality which is also affected by fracking. Methane gas can get into the air and make people and animals sick. We cannot live without water and air and fracking is harming both. We must find a solution to fracking. In conclusion, I hope more people learn about how dangerous fracking is and start protesting against it. Even though good things come from natural gas drilling, all the problems and risks that come with it aren’t worth it. Fracking is contaminating the water and air we need to survive so it must be stopped. More people need to start fighting it before it’s too
