Everybody who enters the military will eventually have to exit, which can be a crazy time, but through good planning and hard work veterans can be successful on the outside. I decided in 2014 that I was ready to exit the military, but I was far from ready. The nervousness and excitement was overwhelming and it was still another two years before I would become a civilian. There was a lot of preparation and discussion with my family before, during, and after exiting the military. After spending eleven years in the military it almost becomes habit just to stay remain in, but instead of accepting orders to England, my family and I decided to cancel the orders and get out of the military. We had spent a long time trying to decide what the best option for us would be, due to only being nine years from retirement. The stigma of retirement tends to be the only reason why individuals stay in the military, but to my family and I it was not worth the extra nine years of being away from relatives. Once deciding that it was time to exit the military, we needed to determine what to do the next two years. During the two years waiting to exit the military, we decided it would be a good idea to finish up some schooling. When taking the time to decide to get out of the military, develop a plan to determine what the steps during the wait period should be. During the time waiting for the separation date, accomplish some schooling and start applying to jobs. After exiting the military, enjoy the rewards of setting a plan and working hard to achieve success. Just because everyone has to exit the military at some point, doesn’t mean it has to be a negative experience or a negative
