When Johnny notices the church on fire, he runs into the building to save the children. Johnny is showing he is being a hero because he is risking his life for others. Solonmen from “Shirley the Elephant” expresses courageousness because chose to take care of this elephant that didn't have anyone else. From “The drummer Boy” Joby was courageous because he ran away and began to fight in the war always thinking he was going to die but after a talk with the general he began to be courageous and fight with no fear. Show MoreA hero is a person who cedes to benefit others. Through many complications that were faced they stood up with the greatest bravery. Welles Crowther is a great example of a hero who sought to help the other people in the World Trade Center during 9/11. Though he could’ve saved himself he tried to save others. Though he lost his life he inspired others to help others in need. Ling Young says,”He said,”I’m going back up again.” Cause he knows that there were a lot of people still up there on the 78th floor that needed help (“The Man in the Red Bandana”). Though he could have saved
In my opinion, a hero is someone whose principal purpose, whether it be in one situation or over the span of their entire life, is to help others while simultaneously making the world a better place. When the word hero is brought up, the most prevailing image that comes to mind is superheroes like Batman and Superman. But I don’t think you have to have superpowers or even be well known in order to be a hero. There are people all over the world whose intention is to do selfless deeds and go out of their way for others without expectation of obtaining anything in return. These are the type of people I like to consider everyday heroes. They go through life just trying to be the best they can and trying to help as many people as they can. Whether
Christopher Reeve once said, “ A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” The difference between a hero and an average person is that, one will give up and the other will keep fighting. Heroes are willing to sacrifice themselves for others, they are brave when other others cower, and do not run away from the terror.
“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself” says Joseph Campbell.
A hero is a man of courage and ability who is admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. A hero is a person who does not come along very often in any time period. He is a special person, who is a step above the average person in the way that he handles any situation that may arise.
In today’s contemporary world what is meant to be a hero is often mistaken by that portrayed in the media, through film and books. Far too often people think of heroes only as someone who risks there life to save another. But a hero is simply just someone who goes out of their way to do something for someone else and make a positive difference in their lives.
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary a hero is an individual who is admired for great bravery or fine qualities. To me a hero is so much more than a person who shows great bravery. When I think of a hero many fine qualities come to mind; intelligence, courage, altruism, compassion and great bravery.

“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles” (Christopher Reeves). In other words a hero can be anyone that is determined and helps other people. A hero is someone who can face challenges with determination, who can persevere or exceed beyond expectation, but is not always buff, or strong.
hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself”-Joseph Cambell.
Another example of courage is during the old serum gang scene, Atticus Finch, the father of Scout and Jem, sat in front of his client in his jail cell, reading the newspaper when a group of farmers who have a reputation of being intoxicated approached him. The gang threatened Atticus, but Atticus stayed strong, he maintained his calm collected attitude and tried to reason with the gang. Scout described the encounter as: “We saw Atticus look up from his newspaper. He closed it, folded it deliberately, dropped it in his lap, and pushed his hat to the back of his head. He seemed to be expecting them.” (201). In This scene, Atticus maintained his cool and used slow easy to follow actions to control the situation that he knew was inevitable. He demonstrates courage because he calmly folded his newspaper and stood up slowly which demonstrates bravery because this shows that he is standing up to the gang, instead of fleeing from the danger and saving himself. This is a dangerous situation because he knows the gang have weapons in their possession which is a precursor to violence and danger. Bravery is also demonstrated is that he tries to reason with the gang even though it is like reasoning with the reaper. In danger there are two types of people the bystander and the person who takes the matter into their own
Hero. Usually when this word is heard we think of Superman, Batman, Iron man and so on, but in reality what exactly is a hero? Who can be classified as heroic? From my perspective a hero is not only someone who wears a cape, has superhuman strength, wears fancy clothes or someone who saves his lady from the bad guy; however he is someone who stands for strength, bravery, humbleness, justice and equality. I believe a hero is someone who truly intends to make the world a better place for all people. He stands for what he believes in even though he may encounter danger and obstacle. We often watch movies with action heroes fighting for a good cause, but these heroes cause us ignore the real life heroes such as Cesar Chavez and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Cesar Chavez and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr are genuinely the definition of a hero.
Johnny’s ability to take responsibility for his own actions is the first characteristic that makes him a hero. People believe that parents are responsible for their children's mistakes, this is not the case for Johnny with his actions. No matter what Johnny does his parents would not do anything about it. He could go to jail for life and they would still not care. For example when Johnny killed Bob to help protect his best friend Ponyboy, his parents did not care. He ran away and they never went looking for him. Johnny could have blamed his abusive parents for him killing another person, but that thought never crossed his mind. Johnny accepts his fate for what he has done. When Ponyboy, Dally and Johnny were hiding out on Jay mountain
A hero is a person who is admired because of who they are. They do not have to possess physical strength and power. The strength and power of a hero is in the will to endure, to overcome to the point they inspire and encourage. They don't have to be active. A passive hero speaks abundance when it comes to the essence of a hero. A hero does not have to be famous nor possess abundance of money. A hero makes due with what they have and their status comes by way of being a leader and motivating others to make a positive change in life. A hero has many faces, attributes, and abundance of inspiration.
