People interpret and analyze everything differently. “Trifles” written by Susan Glaspell is a one act dramatic play containing seven characters. Literature: Approaches to Fiction, Poetry, and Drama refers to a dramatic play as a form of “staged art” written to be performed or presented by means of acting. The scheme of the play is to find out who and why John Wright was murdered. “Trifles” by Susan Glaspell can be analyzed by its character’s roles in the play. The characters include John Wright, Minnie Wright, Mrs. Peters, and Mrs. Hale. First, “Trifles” may be analyzed by the character of John Wright. John Wright did not have the reputation of being a nice man. Mr. Wright’s wife is Mrs. Wright. John was found killed in his house by Lewis Hale who also is in the house when they are trying to solve the murder case. John was a farmer who people thought of as aggressive. “She remembers Mr. Wright as a "hard man," like "a raw wind that gets to the bone."’(Bryer) Mr. Wright had the reputation of being a ruthless man, so when he was murdered it was not all that shocking. Mrs. Wright was married to John. He prior name before marriage was Minnie Foster. She, unlike her husband, had a good reputation. “Mrs. Wright, as a "sweet and pretty" young woman with a good singing voice.” (Bryer) It was shocking to everyone when Mrs. Wright was not concerned about her husband’s death. “So we went back down stairs. She was still sitting that same way. 'Has anybody been notified?' I asked. 'No', says she unconcerned.”(Diyanna) Mrs. Wright showed little concern for her husband’s death.
