John Quincy Adams: Legacy after the Presidency John Quincy Adams was found completely naked in the Potomac River at five in the morning by Ann Royall. He was an avid swimmer and went out every morning to bathe and get ready for the day. Ann did her stalking to figure out that someone left the white house everyday around five so she followed him one morning to see if it could lead to an interview. Yes, he was a man of strange habits, but a necessary help for the nation. John Quincy Adams was a powerful figure who benefitted the government by keeping strong, positive foreign relations, voicing his powerful abolitionist opinions, and serving to advance college education. Following his father’s legacy, John Quincy Adams became a gifted politician for the United States’ government. John Quincy Adams was born on July 11, 1767, in Braintree, Maryland. He was the sixth president of the United States and only served one four-year term. After his presidency he served as a senator which is when he was most influential. Adams is well known for being an advocate for the abolition of slavery during his term as a senator. He was a lawyer for many of years and while he was a congressman he defended the slaves of the Amistad, contrary to the popular belief of that time period. Most people believed all people of color were not entitled to their lives and considered them property. John Quincy Adams viewed them as people not equals, regardless he was one step ahead of everyone else. He stood for a great cause that was the opposite of the general consensus. Adams was a Federalist which meant he was upper class and wanted a strong central government and this showed when he led his country. He had to keep the nation stable amidst the French’s dislike for him that lead to the X, Y, Z Affair. The X, Y, Z Affair with France led to a three year long Quazi War that Adams had to keep the government stabile during. This led to him passing the Alien and Sedition Acts which were highly controversial and went against the first amendment. This was the first act of Adam’s presidency that went against the stability of the US government.
Ulysses Simpson Grant, the 18th President of the United States of America, was a significant influence on American history. Throughout his life, he always felt an exceptional commitment to the American military. This man helped the Union defeat the Confederates in the American Civil War and contributed to Americans during the Reconstruction time period, in hopes that America would be a fully industrialized nation. John Adams virtually eradicated his chances of easily winning the election of 1800 by defying the hardcore patriotic attitude of many Americans. Through his continued acts, regardless if they were what was best for the country at that particular time or is he believed morally that it was the correct decision, such as approving the Alien and Sedition Acts and helping the British soldiers that were involved in the Boston Massacre, he left no room for himself to take an easy path to the presidency much less any path to the presidency.
The early lives of John Adams and John Quincy Adams are different. John Adams?s father, who also named John, sent his son ? young Adams to Harvard College at age fifteen, and he expected him to become a minister. His father was working hard to make young Adams?s life different than his own which was to become an educated person. However, John Adams did not want to become a minister. After he graduated in 1755, he taught school for few years in Worcester, and that allowed him to think about his career choice. After much reflection, he decided to become a lawyer, and studied law in the office of James Putnam, a prominent lawyer in Worcester. In 1758, he was admitted to the bar. He put the skill to good use as a lawyer, often recording cases he observed so that he could study and reflect upon them. His report of the 1761 argument of James Otis in the superior court of Massachusetts as to the legality of Writs of Assistance is a good example. On the other hand, John Quincy?s father which is John Adams did not push him to become a minister. Moreover, John Adams brought young Adams to France (1778 ? 1779) and to the Netherlands (1780 ? 1782) to acquire his early education at institutions at the University of Leiden. Born in January of 1737, John Hancock grew up to become a prominent founding father and important Patriot in American history. Filling many roles throughout his life, John Hancock shaped the course of the Revolution by standing out against the British rule. Andrew Jackson was the 7th president of the United States and represented the common people. He did many things that he believed helped the people of the United States, but in fact were unconstitutional. In my opinion Andrew Jackson acted like a king. Some of the damaging events of his presidency include the bank war, the trail of tears and the nullification crisis.

Although his merchant father lack a gentleman education he had a knack for making money. Samuel adams also signed the Declaration of Independence. He married a women by the name of Elizabeth Checkley in 1749 unfortunately she died in 1757. A couple of years later Samuel Adams married Elizabeth Wells in 1764. It is a little strange two women both with the name Elizabeth I think. Samuel adams was was lieutenant governor and governor of Massachusetts. A- John Adams- A Massachusetts lawyer and politician, John Adams was the one that defended the British shooters at the Boston Massacre. He went on to join the meeting at the First Continental Congress in Philadelphia in 1774. Adams and the rest of the Congress wanted there to be an end to the Intolerable acts that were put on the Colonies by the British, and they wanted to have their own government, instead of the British governing them. This lead to the start of the Revolutionary War. John Adams was one of the delegates from Massachusetts to sign the Declaration of Independence.
Andrew Jackson was like no other president before him. The previous presidents had one thing in common, they were all part of the founding fathers or in John Quincy Adam’s case was the son of a founding father. However Jackson was a plantation owner from the west who had no connections with the government. He also had different views from other presidents that made his presidency unique. Two things that separated Andrew Jackson’s presidency from previous presidencies were he reached out to the common people and he was disapproving of the Bank of United States.

The man did want his slaves to be treated well. Jackson made sure to tell his overseer, “that he was to treat them with great humanity, feed and clothe them well, and work them in moderation.” However, Andrew Jackson wouldn’t hesitate to have a slave be whipped for running away or being imprudent. Moreorless, once when an overseer ended up killing a slave, Jackson immediately went to court to have the man tried for murder. Unlike the three other presidents, John Quincy Adams had never owned a slave in his life. He was an advocate against slavery, and one of his well known actions was writing a letter to other advocates of against slavery. Adams wasn’t a big abolitionist, unless it was done gradually, and he believed not doing so would start “producing greater violations of Justice and Humanity, than the continuance of the practice” of slavery itself. (John Adams) This gave people the wrong idea, they knew that Adam was trying to make sure that slavery wasn’t an everyday thing, but Adam wasn’t very convincing in his letter. As life went on, he created a group named "Sons of Liberty", a group made by founding fathers who protected their rights in every way possible. Being the leader of this group, they made a strong offense to repeal the Stamp Act. This mission was successful, as the Stamp Act was only put into place for a year because of the Sons of Liberty. Since he was a tax collector for 12 years, he really had time to think about Parliament and all of their decisions and choices and his input on them. He was an amazing spokesman. He was very distinguished in his telling as well as the complete details on his ideas. Samuel Adams lived a long and successful life of helping his fellow friends and family to earn and keep the rights that they deserve. His family was very honorable to have such an amazing man.
