John Lennon
October 9, 1940, John Lennon is born into a dysfunctional family in Liverpool, England. After John’s father left him, his mother left him to stay with his Aunt Mimi. At a young age John started writing short stories. The young John Lennon was always a leader. John had his own little gang as a child in England. Nigel
Whalley, a friend of John’s, said,” John was always a leader. He was the one to dare you. He never cared what he said or did.”(Corbin13). John and his friends were troublemakers; however, the only people to ever get in trouble were John’s friends and not John. Even though John Lennon died at a young age, he inspired people through his music with the Beatles, his solo career, and through his death.
John’s music career began with the look. John wore tight jeans, a leather jacket, and his hair was slicked back (the
“greaser” look). John idolized Elvis and Buddy Holly and the
Crickets. After John begged his aunt to buy him a guitar, the first song he learned how to play was Buddy Holly’s “That’ll be the Day.” John then decided to organize his own band. He gathered up people from his “gang” in grammar school: best friend Pete
Shotten, washboard; Nigel Whalley, tea-chest; Ivan Vaughan, tea-chest; Eric Griffith, guitar; Colin Hanton, drums; and Rod
Davis, banjo. As the leader of the band, and the only person with any musical talent, John played lead guitar. The band, Quarrymen, was named after the school they attended. The band had a positive affect on john; he wasn’t getting in any trouble. If John were to get into trouble the band wouldn’t be able to play at school events, dances, parties, or weddings. They played popular rock
‘n’ roll songs like “Blue Suede Shoes.” John did not like to memorize the words to songs, so he often made up his own lyrics as he was going along.
A double affect of inspiration happened when Ian Vaughan introduced John to Paul McCatrney. John was impressed by Paul and he even admitted that Paul was as good at the guitar as he was.
However, John wanted to be a leader and if Paul joined his band he would have to share his leadership. Then John, a few weeks later, came to his senses and asked John to join the band. Pete left the band after John smashed the washboard over his head; however, they still remained friends. Paul started writing songs and this made John jealous. This was probably a good thing, because then John started writing songs. Then they started collaborating songs and they credited them to “Lennon/McCarthy.
John was a talented youngster. At the tender age of 6 he was studying music. He learned to play many types of instruments; the
When the dragon awakes after three hundred years of sleep, he discovers that his cup has been stolen. The dragon, also known as the worm, fills with anger and rage. Even though he is so angry, he does like the idea of battle: “Yet he took joy in the thought of war, in the work of fighting” (Donaldson 40). The dragon cannot wait to ravage the land of the people where one man has stolen from him: “The hoard-guard waited restless until evening came; then the barrow-keeper was in rage: he would requite that precious drinking cup with vengeful fire” (Donaldson 40). The dragon destroys the land and kills everyone around. The dragon even destroys Beowulf’s home.
Hrothgar and the Danes hold a celebration after they finished of their new mead hall, named Heorot. During the celebration Grendel, a monster in the swamps, hears the loud cheers of the Danes singing and chanting as the festivities take place. Grendel becomes furious from
Edgar Allan Poe uses the insanity of his narrator to create an unsettled feeling in the reader. In "The Tell-Tale Heart," the narrator has the readers on their toes. Humans have a tendency to not see the truth about their conditions, even when they are talking in detail about them. This is seen in "The Tell-Tale Heart" when the narrator starts by telling the reader "[t]he disease had sharpened [his] senses . . . not dulled them,"(1). The use of fear, the concept of sanity, and the dedication to detail the narrator, all provide insight about a world that some people might wish to do without.
As a teenager, young Jimi listened to typical fifties music such as Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presely and even a little Eddie Cochrane. He played in a few bands in high school, but then dropped out before his senior year. Jimi really never really imagined that he had enough talent to go into the music industry, actually he thought he had no talent whatsoever and had a terrible voice.
Regarding significant musical movements in history, more specifically the twenty first century, few were more important than the folk revolution that took shape in the mid-nineteen hundreds. One of the leaders of this revolution was Robert Allen Zimmerman, known by his popular assumed name, Bob Dylan. Born in 1941 in Minnesota, Dylan grew up the grandchild of Jewish-Russian immigrants and had a surprisingly unexceptional childhood. His interest in music became evident in his high school years when he taught himself basic piano and guitar. From these rudimentary skills Dylan would build his knowledge and experience in music to his present status as a forefather of folk music in the rock era.
Leonard Bernstein is widely known not only as one of the greatest American conductors, but also as a composer whose creativity and passion was spread over a wide range. His social and cultural influences helped shape his career into a musical icon and his music rekindled the American spirit. Above all, he will be remembered as one of the most amazing and influential musical personalities of the twentieth century.
The Tell-Tale Heart treads the line of genius versus insanity. Poe begins the story with an introduction from a presumably insane narrator who first greets his audience by reassuring us that he’s not insane at all. “Observe how calmly I can tell you this story,” he begins. He finds genius in his plot to kill an old man with a fogged eye, and the very thought consumes the narrator. The line between genius and insanity was a line Poe treaded throughout many of his works, but especially in The Tell-Tale Heart. According to an analysis of Poe’s works expressed in the novel Edgar Allan Poe: A Study in Genius by Joseph Wood Krutch, it states that “Truth and fiction were with him inextricably mingled, and imagination, being the result of an unconscious effort at psychic adjustment, outside his control. Sometimes, it was so vivid as to constitute an actual hallucination, but being afterwards recognized as such it was written down as a story....

“Imagine” by John Lennon, released in 1971, was one of the most influential, and important songs of the last 50 years. This track was viewed as his final statement on religion after many years of confusing mixed signals (WND). Lennon constantly calls upon the power of Imagery to appoint his ideas throughout the song, hence the title. Imagery is the formation of figures, ideas, and mental images through diction (Dictionary.com). Many of the ideas Lennon creates are supported, and even inspired by real life events. In John Lennon's “Imagine”, he uses the power of Imagery and applicable real life events to portray an idealistic Utopia.
In conclusion, Poe shows the insanity of the narrator through the claims of the narrator as to why he is not insane, the actions of the narrator bring out the narrative irony of the story, and the character of the narrator fits the definition of insanity as it applies to "The Tell Tale Heart". The "Tell Tale Heart" is a story about how insanity can overtake someone's mind and cause one to behave irrationally.
Hothgar: The old, once great King of the Danes whose hall, Heorot is attacked by Grendel.
Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong was one of the most popular musicians of his time. Upon initiating my research, I was surprised to find conflicting dates as to when he was born. Encarta Africa said he was born in 1901, 1001 things to know about African American history-1898, regular Encarta --1900, "Little Louis and the jazz band" by Angela Shelf Medearis says his date of birth is August 4, 1901. The book "Jazz Stars" by Richard Rennert states that Louis Armstrong was born in 1899, the book "Louis Armstrong" by Sam Tanenhaus says he was born on July 4, 1900. The reason why they have so many different dates is due to the fact that he probably wasn't born in a hastpital and they did not use to keep good records of black people's birthdays. So for accuracy sake, we can say he was born in the end of the 1800's, or the beginning of the 1900's.
Poe reinforces issues of morality in "The Tell-Tale Heart" through the state of madness. In this story, Poe provided an analysis of paranoia and mental worsening or deterioration. Poe distributed this story in great detail to
