John Fitzgerald Kennedy became the 35th president of the United States in 1961. At the age of forty-three, he was the youngest man ever elected president. He was also the first Roman Catholic ever elected to the oval office. Rich, handsome, charming, elegant, articulate, and from a well known family, Kennedy became a natural recipiant of admiration both in the United States and abroad. His assassination in Dallas, Texas on November 23, 1963 resulted in public outrage and widespread mourning throughout the nation and the World.
Kennedy's term in office was too short to allow history to pass fair and acurate judgement on his accomplishments as president. Their is little doubt, however, that the image and philosphy, he brought to the oval office not only influenced the generation he governed, but also continues to influence today's generation and politics in general. Indeed, "Camelot", the name given to the idyllic time during Kennedy's presidency, is not a dead mythology but a living idealogy that continues in American society today. John Fitzgerald Kennedy (he latest gained the nick name Jack) was born on May 29, 1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts. He was Joseph & Rose Kennedy's second son. His father was a multimillionaire businessman, who had became a bank president at the age of 25, and made his fortune through investments in stocks, importing, shipbuilding, and moviemaking.
Joe Kennedy's political experince was limited to being appointed the first chairman of the newly created Securities and Exchange Commission (1934-1935) by president Franklin D. Roosevelt, and having served as the head of the U.S. Maritime Commission (1937), as well as being the U.S. ambassador to Great Britain (1937-1940). Even though Joseph Kennedy never ran for an elected office himself, he and his wife had large ambitions for their nine children.
John Kennedy was groomed for a career in politics from an early age. Growing up Kennedy was small for his age and suffered through several childhood diseases. As a child he was quite and shy, a far cry from his personality traits in his later years. During his childhood his older brother Joe helped and protected him, and served as a role model for young Jack.
From an early age the Kennedy children were taught by their parents that the United States had been good to the Kennedy's and that whatever the U.S. did for them must be returned by some service to the country.
John F. Kennedy was the President of the United States from 1961 to 1963. Shortly after taking over in office he gave an inspiring speech during a News Conference held on April 10, 1961, to discuss the inflation of steel prices and the impact it had on the American people.
Kennedy’s Mystique resembling Camelot, but also his domestic policy. King Arthur felt he needed to have England unite and recuperate after years of fighting within the country. For JFK, he felt obligated as well. For instance, Kennedy realized there was a high amount of poverty in America. He tackled it by increasing minimum wage so people could get part-time jobs that could get them by easier without being poor. King Arthur felt that by helping the middle class, he would gain the trust of his people, and Kennedy did the same. Alternatively, JFK helped out with Civil Rights. He pulled strings to get Martin Luther King Jr out of jail. This showed tremendous support for African Americans. Not only did he show support for African Americans, he also was involved in the space race competition with Russia. He felt that by beating Russia in the space race, he would make America superior. King Arthur, also believed that England had the potential to be the greatest country in the world. Kennedy was able to put Alan Shepherd in sub-orbital flight. In the end, JFK was able to have American feel proud of their homeland, just alike King
Kennedy was elected president in the year of 1961. Which was during the time that the Cold War was in full swing. The Cold War being the tension filled era between the superpowers in the east and the superpowers in the west. Contrary to the other two presidents, JFK was not speaking to the American public at the time of the war 's conclusion but right near the middle of the 40 plus year issue. Regardless he was assuring the public. He stated, “...that the torch has been passed to a new generation of American-”. That optimism cannot be matched. Even at the darkest of times could he stand up there, the president of the United States, and tell the young people of America that their time is now. Not only that but he attempts to inspire Americans when he says “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”, which was definitely a knock at the Russians. JFK overall had this persona about him. This was the speech where muttered that historic and uplifting quote, “And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country.” His message of peace and coexisting really stand the test of
Made from contingencies and correlations, everything in history happens because of something else. Kennedy’s skepticism towards his advisors stems from the failures of the Bay of Pigs. The Bay of Pigs was a CIA operation in the early 1960’s. It involved Americans training Cuban exiles in Nicaragua before sending them to invade Cuba in the hopes of overthrowing Castro. Kennedy largely inherited the Bay of Pigs from the Eisenhower administration as “The decision to overthrow Castro’s regime had been taken by the Eisenhower administration in January 1960, and by March of that year the CIA had developed a program of action”.

“ The body heals with play, the mind heals with laughter, and the spirit heals with joy ” (proverbs). This quote really relates back to the Secret Garden and the key passage i have chosen. The key passage i have chosen is in chapter one and is the last paragraph on page 4 which continues on to page 5. In the book up to this paragraph Burnett explains where this young girl Mary comes from and how beautiful her mother is and how successful her father is but Mary is neither of those things. She is a young child that is not as pretty as her mother and stuck in her room because her parents hired help to take care of Mary’s every need. Mary’s body does not heal because there is no play, her mind does not heal because she does not have much laughter, and her spirit does not heal because she has no joy. All of these things apply to your wellness as a whole and this book shows a lot of it.
