What three jobs interest me? Personally I’m interested in being a Radiologist of course, but I’m also intrigued with being an Anesthesiologist or a physician’s assistant. During this mini research project I will be discussing general core requirements, and just general aspects of the job itself. For instance the salary for each of the profession and expected job prospects.
The medical field is quite vast in its selection of job careers even within the same job you can be many different titles while doing the same thing. One of the careers I had chosen was to be a radiologist. Radiologists are physicians who use cutting-edge imaging technology to examine organs and tissues inside the body in gentle, noninvasive ways. Their expertise in physics, anatomy and the disease process allow them to diagnose injuries and illnesses so treatment can begin. A growing subset of these specialists called interventional radiologists performs surgical procedures under imaging guidance in order to minimize damage to healthy tissue. Becoming a radiologist isn’t an easy path to take there is many steps to become one. For instance there is educational requirements, then radiology training. There is also certain necessary skills and qualities that a radiologist must have.
The first step in becoming a radiologist is to obtain a bachelor’s degree. Students that are pre-med can study any subject but they must still meet the prerequisite requirements in several subjects. Students can strengthen their medical school application by earning academic honors, volunteering, conducting scientific research and achieving high scores on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). Many four year universities have advisors to help students along the way such as ETSU. ...

...ysicians, anesthesiologists must complete the following: pass the USMLE, obtain a state medical license, obtain board certification in Anesthesiology, as well as maintain a clean record. With all those requirements it does pay off in the end. The average income for anesthesiologists is $427,956. For those that specialize in pain management, the average income is $529,347. The outlook for anesthesiologists is well. With expanding job need in the near future plenty of jobs will be available.
Lastly, I was interested in becoming a physician’s assistant. A physician assistant (PA) is a medical professional who works as part of a team with a doctor. PAs perform physical examinations, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret lab tests, perform procedures, assist in surgery, provide patient education and counseling and make rounds in hospitals and nursing homes.
Physician assistants (PA's) practice medicine under the supervision of physicians and surgeons. PA's are trained to provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services, as delegated by a physician. They work with members of a healthcare team, they take medical histories, examine and treat patients, order and interpret laboratory tests and x rays, and make diagnoses. PAs may be the principal care providers in rural or inner city clinics where a physician is present for only one or two days each week. In such cases, the PA confers with the supervising physician and other medical professionals as
If you are a new student and are thinking about pursuing a career in the medical field, like me, you have a lot of options. You could become a Registered Nurse, a Physician, a Physician Assistant, a Dentist, an Audiologist, an Anesthesiologist or many other professions. In this article I am going to narrow it down for you between a Physician and a Physician Assistant and I am going to tell you why I would prefer being a Physician Assistant over the highly prestigious Physician career. Physician Assistant is a relatively new career and there are many misconceptions about what individuals with this title do in the medical field.
When the first physician assistant (PA) and nurse practitioner (NP) career fields got their starts, the education was a lot different from what it is today. In the 1960’s, when the first wave of the physician shortage hit the United States, this left physicians scrambling to fill in the gaps. The medical field looked towards ways to help fill in the gaps with the best possible options. Jill Curren (2007), a nurse practitioner, points out that this meant that they needed highly certified healthcare professionals that could do the job of a physician, but these healthcare professionals had to be educated in half the time that it took to become a physician (p. 404). Physicians working at Duke University began to notice a pattern among combat medics. A lot of the medics and doctors that had served in Vietnam had little or no medical training, and most of their medical training occurred while on the job. Therefore, the PA program was born with its roots stemming from the military. “They started the first PA education program, training these medics similarly to the way phy...
The first students enrolled in a PA program were hospital corpsmen from the Navy in 1965. Leadership, accountability, teamwork and excellence are just a few of the many qualities instilled in each and every Sailor who joins the Navy. These characteristics promote unity among your shipmates, working together and keeping each other accountable so no one finds themselves in a position where they feel helpless. These are qualities found in the Physician Assistant values, making a Corpsman-to-Physician Assistant transition appealing.
The average growth rate for occupations is about 7%. However, employment of physician assistants has an average growth of 30% from here until 2024, making it one of the fastest growing careers. With 94,400 job opportunities in 2014, I can only imagine how many there will be in 2024. Due to the growing and aging population there will always be a demand for healthcare services. Also, the role of physician assistants is expected to expand as there have been increases of several chronic diseases such as
There is growing need for professionals in the health field due to the growing amount of patients and health care needs. One field in particular, is a rapidly growing field with the need for 100,000 more each year. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Nurse anesthetists work under anesthesiologists and provide care before, during, and after a surgical procedure. They are also known as CRNA’s or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. In order to become a nurse anesthetist, you must first obtain a bachelor’s degree is nursing. After you complete that challenge, you are required to work in a critical care unit for two years prior to going to anesthesia school. You will then complete an 18 month – two-year program that will allow you
A physician assistant is a healthcare professional who practices medicine as a part of a healthcare team with collaborating physicians and other providers. Physician Assistants perform services typically performed by a physician. One key task for this job is the ability to examine patients to obtain information about their physical condition. Another key task for this job is the ability to prescribe therapy or medication with physician’s approval. A typical day on the job for a physician assistant would consist of diagnosing medical conditions, examining patients to assess general physical condition, prescribe medications, etc.
That I would choose a career in the medical field has never been a question; I am innately nurturing and compassionate. Finding myself drawn specifically toward a career as a physician assistant is something that has occurred over my lifetime and as a result of many experiences. These experiences have developed a skill set in me that I believe uniquely qualifies me for this particular area of health care. As I considered the caregiving skills and attention to detail required of a nurse, and the problem solving and responsibility required of a physician, I realized that I share qualities with individuals in both professions. I believe that this combination of qualities defines the role of a physician assistant and it is these qualities that make me uniquely suitable for this career path.
When looking into a job in the medical field, it is important that you make sure that you know the different options that go along with this field of work. Of course there are options like doctors, or anesthesiologist, or even surgeons, but what about the numerous other people who make every action in the facility happen. Surely you have heard of the Medical Assistances, and their important jobs in a hospital.
...e complex procedures (2). It is expected to grow much faster than the average occupational growth (1). Over the next decade the projected increase is 10%-20% (2). The median yearly salary is $334,770 (1). Salary differs according to the employer (4). Anesthesiologists are often paid $1000-$1300 a day (4). Anesthesiologists in advanced training can earn $1500 daily (4).
My future career goal is to become an anesthesiologist. An anesthesiologist administers an anesthetic to patients before going into surgery. They also have to keep monitor of vital life signs and make sure everything in the body is functioning properly while under the anesthetic. I think being an anesthesiologist is something I’d enjoy being because I like being in control. I like making sure people are okay and that is specifically what anesthesiologists do; they make sure the patient can’t feel any pain and is comfortable during surgery.
There are so many medical careers; it’s really hard to determine what specialty is going to be the greatest fit for different people. Personally, I love working with kids, so I’ve always been interested in pediatrics. Even though I know I want to work I pediatrics, there are still many opportunities out there. I’ve reduced my choices to either a pediatrician or a pediatric nurse. These two occupations have many similarities but just as many differences. The schooling required, credentials, and responsibilities are very different. I also have to look at which path will be best for me as I get older. How much schooling do I want to go through, and how much do I want to be working? Those variables are extremely important to look at as I try to decide what career I want to pursue.

I have chosen to take one of the Allied health professions route and want to study Radiography. When I was doing my research, I became aware of the whole range of careers one can pursue in the NHS. I am a caring person and aim to improve these qualities. Diagnostic radiographers work mainly within the radiology and imaging departments of hospitals, but may also work in surgeries or clinics. I am attending Baton Rouge General School of Radiologic Technology to pursue an Associates degree through Northwestern State University to become a licensed radiologic technologist. I chose this profession because I thoroughly enjoy helping others and making a difference in people’s lives. Radiologic technologists are expected to give efficient patient care while following the doctor’s order to proceed with the X-ray examination. Radiology is the most important role in healthcare because with out having X-rays, the surgeons could not see inside of the patient’s body to perform surgery. Doctors can not predict what is going on inside of a patient without having an X-ray. I am interested in this being my future career because
