I am writing to inform you the status of the case of former convict Jimmy Valentine. Based on evident similarities from his previous work it can be concluded he partook in three burglaries following his bail. However, he has shown no interest in continuing this line of work in Elmore, Arkansas. It’s possible he has well orchestrated an entire trick to deceive us but the members of this town seem to genuinely perceive him as a good man. I have come to believe that as well although the occasional remaining doubt. He currently goes by the name Ralph D. Spencer and is engaged to Annabel Adams, the daughter of the owner of the Elmore Bank. Without a doubt the first assumption was that he formed a relationship with this girl out of interest but
The similarities in the lives of this father and son are uncanny. I will look at the murders committed by both Butch and Willie. They both committed two murders. I will look at the correlation between the two men and the murders they committed. I will touch on their lives and their treatment at home. In addition, how that eventually affected them and the eventual murders they both committed. Their mother has sent them both away. They were both sent to the same juvenile detention centers at different times. This affected both men differently. The psychologists gave them the same diagnosis at different times, but no one realized this at the time. It is astonishing that there was no connection made between the two men. There was bound to be tragedy in their lives given the history in this family. Butch and Willie both committed heinous crimes, but for different reasons. I will look at why I think they killed and what sentences I believe they should have gotten for killing.
James T. Johnson was a young man who had a good job working as a construction worker. Although, he had a job and worked every day he still lived at home with his mother. Furthermore, he was the type of young man who went to work on time and after work he would come home. Unfortunately, there were occasions where he would go out with a few of his co-workers on a Friday he still came home afterwards. Nevertheless, he was hiding a secret from his mother that later led to him being arrested. Now, rather than James uses his money he had earned from working, he burglarized homes and garages in the communities in his area. After burglarizing these homes he would then sell the items he had stolen via the internet or a pawn shop in two different counties.
Kingston Penitentiary is located on the shore of Lake Ontario in Ontario, Canada. It has served as the main symbol of punishment in Canadian society. Penitentiary Houses were first created in Great Britain in 1779. It was on June 1, 1835 that Kingston Penitentiary formerly known as the Provincial Penitentiary admitted its first six inmates.
Punishment has been around for ages. From century to century the thoughts of punishment have changed for good and bad, but the focus of punishment has not changed. With two sides to the story one being to reform or rehabilitate and the other to be punitive and ask for a penalty in return for the wrong doing done. It is hard not to see that there is plenty of controversy revolving around the subject, punishment has with stood the test of time and with good reason. Some would say the need for punishment is obvious, but others believe it has been taken too far. I say, the glue that holds society in order is punishment. Without our government’s systematic penal code to enforce the social norms that are set in place, our neighborhoods might not be as safe. The issue with this type of mentality though, is deciding how far is too far, and how to judge properly.
A society that presumes a norm of violence and celebrates aggression, whether in the subway, on the football field, or in the conduct of its business, cannot help making celebrities of the people who would destroy it, (Lapham, 1985). Unfortunately, such acts of rampage have become a prevalent factor in the Canadian culture. As a result of endless media coverage, Canadians now are constantly bombarded with countless images of violence. Many of which often portray a victim avenging their opponent by force. Thus, indoctrinating individuals to believe that it is only through aggression that problems are resolved. Rather than being punished for acts of violence, those who commit such offenses are often praised for their “heroism”. In addition, the success of films like The Godfather, Gladiator, and Troy further aid in reinstating we live in a society that praises violence. Furthermore, this ideology allows for people to partake in violent acts with little or no backlash from ones community. However, when an person strays away from the “norm”, they are likely to then be viewed as a deviant. Such cases of rejection within a society, are often seen in the portrayal of serial killers. Although our society tends to condone violence when it is directed towards a specific individual(s), it does not allow the killing of innocent bystanders. Instead, crimes that are targeted against a number of people over a long period, entail the harshest forms punishments under the law. Sadly, in executing the law for said crimes, those in charge often face much public scrutiny. On January 5, 2017 at approximately 1708 hours, Investigator Mems conducted a recorded interview with suspect, Brian Archa, at Pulaski County Criminal Investigations Division. Mr. Archa was read his Pulaski County Sheriff's Office Advice and Understanding of Rights Form. Mr. Archa acknowledged he understood his rights by indicating yes next to each and initialing. The killer Joseph Vacher wasn’t always a criminal with sociopathic tendencies, he was once an innocent child. He may have scared his friends and family with his actions and continued to grow more violent and dangerous as he grew older, but at one time he was a child. As an adolescent he served in the military and lived at a monastery. When he came to adulthood he was charged and treated at two different mental institutes. The reasons for his violent nature may have been mental illness or a born criminal, whatever is the case he continued to commit crimes and was the target of new criminology technics.
On February 27th, 2014 I had the pleasure to interview Detective Vincent Velazquez who was referred to me by Professor Paul Guerrucci. Vincent currently works at the Atlanta Police Department located in 226 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA 30303. On the day of the interview, I was a little anxious since this was actually the first time I interview a crime investigator, however Vincent was very professional and he allowed me to record the entire conversation. I was able to ask questions about his personal life, full details of his profession, current case assignments, criminal investigation procedures and existing problems in the investigation process.
A horrific crime was committed in 2012 in Aurora, Colorado. A 27 year old man by the name of James Holmes walked into a movie theater and brutally shot at the crowd, killing 12 and wounding an astounding 70 people. Holmes had plenty of ammunition to continue his deranged killing spree but luckily his gun jammed and he surrendered and was arrested shortly after. James Holmes appeared in court and tried to justify his actions by saying he has a mental illness and brought forth witness saying he is a sweet and academically gifted child. In the end the jury and judge didn’t believe it, or just didn’t care, and found him guilty which landed him with 3,318 plus years, or one life sentence for every person he had killed. . I applied to graduate school with the long term goal of working in a correctional facility. A childhood friend of mine was arrested and sent to prison in August 2007. I saw him four years after his incarceration. These four years definitely took a toll on his physical appearance and his way of thinking. He is 25 and has the looks of a young person whose youth has been wasted. As I sat with him, I had high hopes of being able to laugh out loud while reminiscing about the past. However, I became upset and tears of sadness trickled down my face. He confided to me thoughts of suicide. He explained to me in prison terminology or street talk, one must never drop the soap. The victim, John Kondejewski, a sergeant in the military as well as battle school instructor, was killed on May 15th, 1997 in Brandon Manitoba by the defendant, his wife, Kimberley Kondejewski, in the bedroom of their home (Sheehy 88). The couple was married for over 17 years before the proceeding occurred. Kimberly shot her husband three times that Thursday night; first shot to the chest, second and third shot were closer range, which led the police to charge her with first-degree murder (Sheehy 115). Something happened my sophomore year of high school that little did I know would change my perspective, not only of myself, but life in general. I was looking for something new and exciting to enhance my high school existence and decided to give the Criminal Justice Club a try. I was familiar with the advisor of the club, but knew that the club had astigmatism for attracting those students who were just looking for something easy to do. I knew about the criminal justice system, but only what they show on Law and Order. However, I immediately fell in love, not only with the club but the entire prospect of Criminal Justice. I stepped into the club as if it were a place I belonged and easily became a leader. I was able to learn things the TV shows
I, William Fletcher, submit the appeal for strong armed robbery. I am currently adjudicated at Excalibur Youth Services serving a guideline of fifteen to twenty-four months. I’ve served twenty-seven documented months. I can prove that I’ve made tremendous changes in my attitude and life style choices due to my involvement in various programs that the department of juvenile justice has offered since my adjudication.
