Jesus Christ, Western European Emperor? There are some historians that believe after the fall of the Roman Empire the Western European Emperor was Jesus Christ. However, this theory can be refuted with the consideration of the many inconsistencies of the timeline from Jesus’ birth and the founding of Rome, Jesus following, and the similarities of Jesus’ death and the death of Rome’s Attis. It is said that Jesus was born in 4BCE to Mary and Joseph in Judea (141). However, the timeline in itself raises a noteworthy paradox in chronology. The Roman dating system labels the time before the birth of Jesus as BC, or “before Christ,” while the time period that references the birth of Jesus as 1AD, or Anno Domini, which means “in the year of …show more content…

When it is said Jesus began “…teaching missions that placed him squarely in conflict with prevailing Jewish beliefs and authorities...he soon had a small group of followers who believed that he was the Messiah…”(141). If Jesus was the Western European Emperor his following would have been much larger than a “…small group of follower…”(141). Furthermore, Jesus, who is commonly referred to as Jesus Christ received the name “Christ” because of the following he established. The Jewish community commonly referred to each other by a singular name. If a second name was added it would often be the father’s name or the name of the person place of origin. If they were to add a second it would either be the father’s name or the name of their place of origin. It is for this reason that in the Christian bible Jesus is sometimes referred to as Jesus son of Joseph, and alternatively Jesus of Nazareth. The term Christ, which is commonly used today when referring to Jesus, is derived from the Greek word Christos, meaning “the anointed one,” (141). which is also the definition of Messiah. Jews believed that Jesus “…was the Messiah, the Anointed One who would deliver the Jews….to the prophets” (141).
