In the spring of 2015 audiences were treated to the marvelous spectacular that is ‘Jesus Christ Superstar, a rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber that traverses the ages. Director Terri Andrews was able to successfully bring the story of Jesus Christ and his disciples into our modern-day, presenting a show relatable to audiences of all ages. As the audience took their seats we were greeted by a beautiful open stage. The world was immediately presented as an open concept that could unfold into anything. The simplicity of the company’s design has stuck with me. Clear and inviting, shadowed by a projected stained glass star to immediately let you know that the show was going to be big. The open space quickly changed from protests, to business meeting and prisons. ‘What’s the buzz?’ took on a new life as a twitter discussion passed around by the people, as it would be today. The show becomes more and more relatable as the political world becomes a familiar pop culture genre. Everyone today is familiar with the political world and we communicate our opinions in the most convenient way possible. Cellphones. Each character is connected to the world through their technology making a strong comparison to our lives today. With power in their hands every character was able to shout their opinion and thus opened the people's court to the case of Christ.
