Jesse James was known as an American outlaw and legendary figure. Jesse and his family were in favor of the south, which caused he and his brother to join a guerreila band. Jesse and his brother were the most feared outlaws of the late 1800's. They were said to have robbed multiple banks and trains and to have killed countless individuals. It was said that Jesse was like Robin Hood; supposedly he took from the rich to give to the poor. Jesse was killed by a friend who became a traitor for the greed of money. Jesse James gained fame through his criminal ways and remains as an American icon even today.
Jesse Woodsen James was born on September 5, 1847 to Robert Sallee James and Zerelda Elizabeth Cole James. He was born in Kearney, Missouri, but back in his time it was known as Clay County. Jesse had one brother named Franklin "Frank" James and a sister named Susan Lavenia James. He also had another brother, but he died thirty-three days after he was born. His parents were married on December 28, 1841. His father continued his schooling and graduated from Georgetown College. When his father graduated, he moved his family to the Centerville area of Clay County. Robert, Jesse's dad, became a pastor, he was a well-liked and well-respected man. Robert was also a founder of William Jewel College in Liberty, Missouri. Zee, Jesse's mother, was a hard-working woman who was very strong willed. James's father served as a chaplain on a wagon train headed to California in search of gold. He left the farm on April 12, 1850. While in California, he contracted a disease and died. Charlie and Bob had become traitors to Jesse because he had a large sum on his head, and whoever killed Jesse would get that money. In short Jesse James was killed for the greed of money, the same greed he had for it (Yeatmen).
As you can tell, Jesse James was a very famous young man in his time, and he's still quite famous today. Some people said he did all this stuff for money. Others believe that he did this stuff so he would become well known, and obviously, it worked. Some people also say that he was not killed on April 3, 1882. They say he lived on, and there has been some pretty good evidence that he did live on, but we will never truly know. Jesse James gained fame through his criminal ways and remains as an american icon even today.
