Background and Early life
Jean Piaget was a famous biologist, scientist, and psychologist in the 20th century. He was born on 9th August 1896 in a town called Neuchâtel within Switzerland. Piaget was the first born child of Arthur and Rebecca Jackson. His father was Swiss while his mother was French. The parents of Jean Piaget played a very significant role in his lifetime success. For instance, his mother Rebecca Jackson played a part in planting a seed of interest and curiosity in the science field to his neurotic tendencies. On the other hand, his father being a medieval lecturer natured Jean Piaget's passion towards his studies a character that he portrayed from a very tender age. His significant contribution to today's research which is most famous is his theory of cognitive development. Earlier research had shown that most children are just a smaller version of the adult. However, through his theory, Piaget came up with the conclusion that childhood is not similar to adulthood but instead it a unique and essential stage for development into adulthood. He explained that children often think entirely differently from the way the adults tend to think (Evans 52).
