I have not ever been to a Jazz concert let alone any musical concert that I have not been in. However, I was very impressed that Brandford Marsalis never squeaked his horn. I always wanted to play the saxophone; sadly, I was stuck on the clarinet. Mr. Marsalis grew up in the New Orleans area and this was prevalent in the style of music he played. The style sounded like a Jazzy New Orleans type music.
They played 5 songs that they mentioned and a few pieces that they did not mention the name of. The songs they mentioned are: Mighty Sword, Mango, Sunny Side of the Street, In the Crease, and The Blossom of Parting. The music was all from the twentieth century.
It was a very beautifully played concert. However, there were a few things that bothered me. First, Mr. Marsalis only played about ten minutes out of a twenty-minute song. He would play about five minutes and then walk to the back of the stage and walk around or sit down for about ten minutes and then play the last five minutes of the song. This happened every song. At one point, he completely walked off the stage into the backstage area. Second, the crowd was on their phone, taking pictures, video and scrolling through social media, and one lady stood up and waved her arms and danced in the middle of them performing. She was at the front so she was very visible. The people in front of me kept saying things like “mmmmm play it!” or “Yes! Yes! Yes!” I am glad they were getting into it but it was very distracting. …show more content…

I could not tell the difference in the music. It all starts sounding the same after a while. I could tell the difference between a fast tempo and a slower tempo but the notes and rhythm sound a lot
