Looking at core value three when we break it down into pieces and analyze its meaning, we understand that being able to critically read complex and sophisticated text is all we did as writing arts students. Through the different types of writing courses I took in the program each professor presented us we a variety of complex and sophisticated text that helped us revaluate and construct our own writing better. We gathered ideas and information from each text to make our writing more complex and creditable to the reader. We carefully closed read each text by successfully understanding its material, questioning its content and ideas as they show up while reading. One thing I learned is that each genre no matter the style or length each have their own way of being sophisticated and complete pieces of writing in their own way. One reading that spoke to me in many different levels was Jane Gallop’s: The ethics of reading: Close Encounters. This reading was my favorite when it came to reading complex and sophisticated text during my time in the writing arts program. Prior to reading this article I would always jump to conclusions about a piece of text without fulling understanding all its main ideas and hidden messages. My way of reading has drastically change over the years being part of the writing arts program. My writing is better because my way of reading has also improve because they are so linked to each one gets affected by the other. Due to that I read other’s people writing my writing gets influenced by them because I easily takes note on their structure, tone, format and style. Being able to see how other’s write has inspired me to being open to the different styles of writing there
