James Brown, iconic soul singer, created a popular song in 1966 entitled It’s a Man’s World. That song has a powerful message that often rings true today. He vehemently states that it’s a man’s world because men have been the greatest inventors and were traditionally expected to be the providers of the household. However, he did admit that a man is nothing without a woman. Although this song relegates a woman to a supporting role in the grand-scheme of life, it underscores the value women add to the world. More women began actively assuming more prominent roles in the 21st century. Women, such as Oprah Winfrey and Sheryl Sandberg, have proven that we can be a force to be reckoned with. Women are still trying to prove their worth in this male-dominated world where men still earn more than women in comparable jobs, and more opportunities are presented to male entrepreneurs than to female entrepreneurs. Gender inequality is still rife.
