“Life is not a spectator sport. If you’re going to spend your whole life in the grandstand just watching what goes on, in my opinion you’re wasting your life” (Jackie Robinson). Born in January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia, United States. Jackie Robinson became one of the most popular black baseball players. In fact when he was small he loved baseball, and besides was a good student sadly he dropped out of college. However he was very talented in sports. Out of 5 children he was the youngest and was raised by a single mother, and although he was poor he became a baseball icon. Jackie Robinson helped and supported african americans in many ways. He was the first African-American to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962, which was a great honor and recognition. He also served at the NAACP (The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) which is an organization for African-American civil rights in the United States, he served there until 1967. In 1972, the Dodgers retired his uniform number 42 .Jersey number 42 was retired by all MLB teams Major League Baseball . In 2013 they made a movie about him called 42 by Brian Helgeland. Lastly he helped his team (the Dodgers) win the World Series in 1955 .((Baseball Hall of Fame) Overall it is now clear that Jackie Robinson helped the african americans in many ways.
His determination in school helped him be able to play baseball since he loved sports when he was a kid. However it was not easy, from discrimination and racism to threats and offences , Jackie Robinson faced many challenges. Nevertheless his dedication and persistency helped him be able to cross the color barrier and become the first black baseball player to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame . Even though he faced a lot of racism throughout his life and came from a poor family, he never passed a chance and always tried to live life to the fullest.
