Jack Marucci’s Story Jack Marucci’s story is very moving and empowering. His story is what some would refer to as the true American dream. Marucci’s story started when his son said he wanted a wooden bat. This bat was made in the shed behind Marucci’s home. Never did Jack Marucci think that the bat he was making for his son would become such an iconic item for Major League Baseball. During Jack Marucci’s talk here at CPASS I learned a lot. First, I learned that networking is likely the key to everything in life. Marucci started off by making a bat for his son. He had never thought about the bat becoming what it is today. However, he knew a guy that had in with the MLB. Jack created a bat, per the player’s request, and the player actually snuck it into the game. The player ended up really liking the feel and all-around quality of the bat and he asked Jack to make him more. This led to that same player sharing the word to his other teammates. Before Jack knew it his bat was being used and supplied to an …show more content…
As stated above Jack started to make the Marucci bats because his son had wanted a wooden bat to play ball with. If his son never asked for a wooden bat than the bats would have never been made. Another important relationship that Jack has is that with the players of the MLB. Instead of paying the players to use the equipment, Jack allows the players to buy into the company, meaning that they have their own share of the company. This allows Jack to have free advertising about the true, genuine quality of the product. Finally, Jack has the relationship with his lumber yard companies. Without this relationship he would never be able to make the bats in the first place. I learned that no matter how great or how small your relationship with someone is you can always get help from them. The relationships that you have with people are what can help to build

Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play Major-League baseball. His inspiring actions and wise words are remembered even now, and on Jackie Robinson day, all baseball players wear his jersey:“42”. Many biographies have been written, and one biography, The Noble Experiment. Recently, in April 2013, Legendary Motion Pictures released a movie entitled “42”. In many ways, the film and Jackie’s autobiography are alike. However, the are also different in many ways.
...d but he could not achieve his goals. His situation is relatable to the audience even if one is not a baseball player. The book teaches the audience to avoid company and mistakes that can rob them their success. Roy Hobbs misfortunes remind the readers how some obstacles can alter someone’s dreams.
On one visit Derek took to his grandparents house (he was about six) Dot took him to his first Yankee’s game. This is where he really started to dream. He wanted to play shortstop for his favorite team, the New York Yankee’s. When Derek got home from his trip he told his parents about his dream of being on the Yankee’s. His parents took him very seriously. His dad told him that “if you are dedicated and you work hard all of your dreams will come true”. Derek never forgot these words.
In spite of the challenges that he faced along the way, Jackie Robinson was determined to succeed in Major League Baseball, it was this drive that led him to persist in integrating the sport of baseball. Early on, Jackie Robinson believed that God had a special purpose for him. Coming from a Christian background, Jackie Robinson believed that God was preparing him for something big, but he could still not see just what that would be (cite pg 37). Growing up, he excelled in many sports.
While “Shoeless” Joseph Jefferson Jackson may not have been given the same advantages that other ball-players of the time were given, valuable resources, an education, and the favor of the Major League Baseball Association, he nonetheless managed to apply his experiences as a lower middle class American to become a great baseball player. “Shoeless'” life experiences demonstrate not only the clichéd “rags to riches” ideal in many a fair tale, but also the fact that one's experiences early in life can drastically impact an individual's adult life. Regardless of his tarnished reputation in major league baseball, Joe was commemorated after his death in December of 1951 with the typical memorials for any baseball great, ballparks, statues, museums and the like.
For this essay I chose to compare the two baseball icons Derek Jeter and Babe Ruth. During the 1920’s, you couldn’t talk about baseball without talking about Babe Ruth. This was because he was one of the greatest players to exist during that time period. This is the same for our time period when talking about Derek Jeter. Both of these men were immaculate baseball icons of their time.
In this ecomap, Moochie’s family, pets, community, school, and her motivation are included. Moochie’s dad is in blue to show his alcoholism, and the line pointing towards Moochie is dotted since he does not have a positive impact on her. Moochie is effected by her dad’s alcoholism and constant check ins to rehab, and she is vocal about wanting him to stop drinking. There is a solid line pointing to her dad from Moochie since she has a positive effect on him and he is trying to get better for her. For her mom, there is a solid arrow pointing from Moochie to her. Moochie has a positive effect on her mom and her mom wants to make their family better for Moochie. However, Moochie has an arrow with dotted lines pointing towards her from her mom since she is effected by her mom’s constant arguing. Moochie constantly hears her mom yelling and insulting her father. Moochie’s dad and mom have a double sided arrow showing that they do not have a positive relationship. Her parents are constantly arguing, and at one point Moochie is shown explaining how she covers her ears whenever she hears them arguing. Moochie’s brother has a dotted arrow pointed towards her since he does not have a positive

I stood yesterday afternoon engaged in the immense time consuming game of baseball. I stood there contemplating on what ideas, mainly about baseball, were being distorted and confused. Then it hit me…
Since the inception of the first Major League Baseball (MLB) game, played on May 4, 1871, bats made of wood have been the tradition in baseball. The creation of metal bats occurred in the 1920s, but not actually used in play until 1970 when they were introduced into Little League youth baseball. Even though all levels of players from children to professionals seemed to prefer the new metal bats, MLB prohibited their use. Safety, skill level of the players, cost, level of entertainment provided, and tradition are all arguments used in the controversy between whether Major League Baseball should allow metal bats or continue using wooden ones.
For centuries, baseball has changed drastically whether it be the players, teams, records, and all the like. While all things change though, and
Even the debate on who founded baseball becomes a battle of individual achievement, between Abner Doubleday and Alexander Cartwright. Doubleday, being a War vet, is known as the Father of Baseball, but doesn’t receive the recognition. Cartwright is in the Hall of Fame for his contributions, but it has been proven that many of his ideas were forged. John Thorn says that a Colorado mining engineer had been present at a schoolboy game where Doubleday used a stick to draw a diagram for the game. When this new evidence came to light that Cartwright may not have been the inventor of baseball, investigations took place to check the validity of the statement. As it has been demonstrated by experts, “Bruce Cartwright (grandson) inserted fabricated baseball exploits into a typescript of Alex Cartwright’s handwritten Gold Rush journal, which contains no baseball remarks and itself has been judged a forgery.” Although Cartwright is not considered the father of baseball his contributions in Knickerbocker Baseball Club helped shape the game to what we know it as today
I feel like I have wasted 14 years, 4 months, and 24 days of my life waiting for him to change. Every night lying in bed, terrified, paralyzed by fear, praying that God would allow something to happen to me while protecting my children that would wake him up as to what he has right in front of him. Sleeping next to him every night feeling alone and wondering if this was normal. I kept blaming myself for not being good enough and that forced me to sacrifice more and more to win him over, hoping that I would one day be good enough. I never realized that I was in love with a fake person who never truly loved me anyways. He only loved controlling me.
