Even the most forgotten people in history contributed a big impact today. Russia, which is the biggest country in the world today, was not always like that. One of the biggest contributors to the expansion of Russia was Ivan the Terrible, also known as Ivan IV. Ivan the Terrible was the first Tsar of Russia, although he was known for his complex personality but he was a big influence on the centralization of the Russian government. His childhood greatly affected his achievements later in life.

Every person in this world becomes who they are based on people and experiences that touched their early lives. Ivan was the first of two children, he was born on August 25, 1530, in the Grand Duchy of Muscovy, Russia. His birth name was Ivan Chetvyorty Vasilyevich which later changed to Ivan the Terrible later. Tragically, Ivan only had his parents around until he was eight. His father, Vasili III of Russia, died when he was three years old and his mother, Elena Glinskaya, died when Ivan was eight years old. After his father’s sudden death Ivan became the Grand Prince of Moscow, his mother ruled alongside with him until her death in 1538. After his parents’ death, Ivan was looked after by the boyars, who were within the highest of the noble rank, they abused and neglected Ivan. Ivan witnessed many horrific events as a child, especially violence, he heard murders, beatings, and verbal and physical abuse regularly. He developed a modern Russian state and laid the foundations for a great Empire. He encouraged cultural development and helped fixed corrupted governmental power, which he had witnessed as a child.
