Issues in the Hiring of Two New Teachers

In mathematics department, the problems about the two new teachers are directly threatening the students’ learning and motivation. Therefore immediate action must be taken in the short term. At first glance, these problems might seem natural considering that it takes a long time for new teachers to get used to a new culture and a new system. However, especially Kevin’s case was a result of carelessness in the hiring process. As the first intervention to Kevin’s case, I informed the assistant principals and the principal about the fact that he had not have enough energy to teach grade 9 students because of his age and reminded the importance of that level for the following years. Before long, anticipated complaints of the students and parents started and continued with a snowball effect. After a series of meetings with the administrators and with the approval of Kevin, his 3 grade 9 classes were taken from him and given to other teachers.
